Still no success in The Mosul Slog

So the big news out of The Mosul Slog today?

Iraqi general: 40% of west Mosul seized from ISIL

To translate that to reality: 60% of western Mosul still held by the Islamic State.

Day 146 of The Mosul Slog.

At what point is success seen?

Not below.

And those civilians not wounded have largely been turned into refugees.

  1. Nearly 100,000 have been displaced since operation to liberate western Mosul began, Iraq ministry says.

It's a failure.

And that's why Nouri al-Maliki can step out of the shadows.

Since being forced out as prime minister by Barack Obama in the summer of 2014, Nouri has plotted to return as prime minister.

BASNEWS reports the latest move: His State of Law "has collected signatures of the Iraqi MPs for the dismissal of the Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi. Pariwan Khailani, a Kurdish member of the Iraqi parliament, confirmed to BasNews that Maliki is attempting to withdraw confidence from PM Abadi through his parliamentary faction."

The western media has elected to ignore Iraq with the exception of serving up propaganda about The Mosul Slog.

As usual, they've missed the big story.
