US House Rep Karen Bass's office released the following Thursday:
Rep. Bass Slams Trump Administration Override of Californian Environmental Protections
August 2, 2018
Press Release
LOS
ANGELES - Today, Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.) issued the following
statement after the Trump administration announced it would block states
like California from adopting stricter vehicle fuel-efficiency
standards.
“The Trump administration today is taking measures to bring Los Angeles back to the days of smog alerts. As has been already well-documented, the effects of rolling back these environmental protections will be first felt by those living in communities just off of highways. California’s standards are not only part of a larger responsibility to take care of our planet, but also part of a very local push to protect our public health by reducing risk factors that lead to asthma and heart disease.
“Now, with a total disregard for both our environment and the public health of this country, the Trump administration is willingly introducing uncertainty into the already-tariff affected automobile industry, which will prove to only harm productivity and wages. Saving our planet and improving the economy is a false choice. We will continue to fight to protect our environment while investing in high-paying, sustainable jobs.”
