Stalemate continues

Picking up from yesterday's "Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF),"  Amr Salem (IRAQI NEWS) reports:

The Health Department of Dhi Qar Governorate announced Sunday it recorded the highest rate of infection cases and deaths of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever than the rest of other governorates.

Director of Public Health Department in Dhi Qar Hussein Riyadh, in a press statement to Baghdad Today News Agency, said that the governorate recorded 28 cases infected with hemorrhagic fever and five deaths since the emergence of the disease at the beginning of this year.

“Dhi Qar has the highest rates of infection compared to other governorates because of the great effort exerted by teams belong to Dhi Qar Public Health Department to get accurate numbers,” Riyadh added.

Though the western press ignores him, Nouri al-Maliki remains a political player in Iraq.  The former prime minister and forever thug has a huge impact on the political process -- a process now at a stand still.  Elections were held on October 10th. The political stalemate goes on as Iraq has yet to name a president or a prime minister-designate.

Nothing is accomplished, week after week.  Julian Bechocha (RUDAW) notes:

The tripartite alliance of the Sadrists, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), and the Sunni Sovereignty Alliance will start to hold meetings in an effort to resume the government formation process as Iraq remains deeply entrenched in political turmoil, the KDP spokesperson said on Sunday.

"Starting tomorrow [Monday], a series of meetings will be held with the tripartite alliance to find a way out of this political blockage and form the government," KDP spokesperson Mahmood Mohammed told Rudaw's Ranja Jamal on Sunday.

With rivals Coordination Framework seemingly failing to capitalize on Sadrist Movement leader Muqtada al-Sadr's 40-day ultimatum to form a government excluding his alliance, the tripartite alliance, named Save the Homeland Alliance, is readying to intensify its efforts to release Iraq from the months-long deadlock currently engulfing the country's political scene, as Sadr's deadline is set to close this week.

Moqtada had stepped aside for forty days to see if anyone else could form a government. Thus far, no one has.
