Chump and his hiring and judgment 'skills'

Markwayne Mullin replaced Kristi Noem as Homeland Security Secretary.  on March 24th.  Kristi?  Chump had to call in Tom Homan to fix things.  It appears to be going the same way with Markwayne.  Tom Boggioni (RAW STORY) reports:

Violent clashes between protesters and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at Newark's Delaney Hall detention facility forced the Trump administration to deploy its top immigration official for emergency de-escalation after newly appointed DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin made the situation dramatically worse.

According to Politico reporting by Myah Ward, tensions that had been escalating nightly cooled only after border czar Tom Homan was dispatched to meet with state and local officials and negotiate a resolution to the standoff.

The crisis began when images and videos surfaced showing violent clashes between pro-immigrant demonstrators and ICE agents outside the 1,000-bed, privately run detention facility. The unrest followed allegations of poor conditions inside the facility and a detainee hunger strike. Democratic lawmakers descended on the site to condemn detention conditions and accuse federal agents of violence against protesters.

Mullin's response made matters worse. The new DHS secretary threatened to pull customs staffing from Newark Liberty International Airport—a threat that shocked administration officials and sparked airline industry fears of travel chaos across the region.

Is Markwayne unqualified for the post he's been given?  Or is he just a slow starter?

It could go either way.  Unlike with Pete Hegseth who was so obviously wrong from the moment Chump nominated him for Secretary of Defense.  Hegseth was never qualified and that's only become even clearer as he has remained the Secretary.  For example, CK Smith (SALON) reports:

The Department of Defense has significantly reduced the number of recognized religious affiliation codes used across the military, consolidating roughly 200 categories down to 31 in a broader administrative overhaul of how service members’ religious identities are recorded.

Of those 31 categories, 22 are variations of Christianity, most major Protestant denominations.

Social media is also pointing out the list’s inconsistencies. Catholicism is now listed under a single designation under Christianity without similar distinctions of their denominations. Atheists will now be grouped under “Agnostic” — despite each category representing very different beliefs. Jehovah’s Witnesses are categorized under Christianity, while the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) isn’t. All of Judiasm is under a single category. And it’s odd to see Quaker listed so prominently as their doctrine is famously nonviolent and anti-war.

Who put Hegseth in charge of determining what was a religion and what wasn't one?  Whomever did that might need to explain to the Mormons how the US government has now declared them a non-religion.  And it hasn't gone unnoticed.  Alexander Willis (RAW STORY) notes:

Sen. John Curtis (R-UT) lashed out Saturday at Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s office over a “significant change” it instituted regarding the classifications of religions, one he argued was “unacceptable” and that he was actively working to correct.

This week, the Department of Defense announced that it had significantly reduced the number of recognized religions within the agency, down from more than 200 to 31. The change, according to Sean Parnell, Hegseth’s assistant for public affairs, was to allow “religious support personnel" to better provide "spiritual care to our warfighters.”

The issue, Curtis claimed, was that in whittling down the number of recognized religions, Hegseth’s office had declared the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – commonly referred to as the Mormon Church – to not be a Christian religion.

“Latter-day Saints are among the most patriotic, service-oriented individuals in our country. They are also unequivocally Christian – just look at who is in the name of the Church,” Curtis said in a statement published on social media Saturday. “It is unacceptable for a government entity to characterize a faith in a manner that contradicts the religion’s own foundational tenets. I am working now to ensure a correction is made.”

Hegseth is not happy about anything in America -- not even his position of Secretary of Defense which is why he lies that he's the Secretary of War.  When he's not attempting to redefine religion -- which is, again, not his job -- he can be found denying promotions to people of color and women.  Konstantin Toropin (AP) notes:

After Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth cut nine Navy officers, including all the women, from a promotion list, several female officers say they see the unusual intervention as a sign that their careers now have a ceiling and worry for the future generation of female military leaders.

The Navy had selected 31 sailors to promote from the rank of captain to one-star admiral, but Hegseth recently intervened to strike nine people from the list, including three women and two Black men, according to a defense official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss information not permitted to be released publicly.

As a result, the Navy is not promoting a single woman to the one-star admiral rank this year even though women make up about one-quarter of all Navy officers and nearly one-third of the sea service's midgrade ranks, according to military data from 2024.

The Associated Press spoke with eight female Navy officers of varying ranks and time in service after Hegseth's cuts, which were reported earlier by The New York Times, became public. They spoke on condition of anonymity out of fear of retribution from their superiors.

The more junior officers said they saw the development as a sign that their careers would become politicized if they rose too far in the ranks, and some said they felt they now had a limit on how far they could be promoted. Some said it made them feel less valued within the military and wondered whether that wasn't part of the intent.

This would alarm most presidents -- Republicans and Democrats.  It doesn't alarm Chump.  Nothing does.  Because he has no respect for democracy or for We The People.  That's why he's made the  inexperienced Bill Pulte acting Director of National Intelligence.  Lisandra Gomez-Tate (2PARAGRAPHS) reports:

A letter signed by 28 former U.S. national security officials was sent on Wednesday to the leadership of the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Chairman Tom Cotton (R-AR) and Vice Chairman Mark Warner (D-VA), to voice concern regarding President Trump’s consideration of Bill Pulte (currently Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency) as Acting Director of National Intelligence, replacing Tulsi Gabbard.

The letter noted that Pulte “does not have any national security experience, let alone the extensive expertise required by law,” and is “clearly unqualified for this role.” The correspondence warned that “with U.S. forces engaged in active operations abroad, there is no margin for error.”

Among the 28 signees were President Trump’s former Secretary of the Navy James E. McPherson (who served in the first Trump administration), former Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall (Biden), former Secretary of the Army Louis E. Caldera (Obama), and former Secretary of the Navy Richard Danzig (Clinton).

A leader with a functioning mind would grasp the problem with Pulte.  Chump doesn't have a functioning mind.  And we're all seeing how poorly that's worked out for the country.

Let's wind down with this from Senator Elizabeth Warren's office:

Lawmakers seek answers from former DOGE personnel about efforts to mark as dead millions of individuals in Social Security records as part of the Trump immigration enforcement agenda

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren(D-Mass.),) a Member of the Senate Finance Committee, and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Ranking Member of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations (PSI), pressed Social Security Administration (SSA) Commissioner Frank Bisignano and three former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) staffers on an alarming new whistleblower account detailing Trump administration plans to mark 2.7 million people as dead in a Social Security database as part of its immigration enforcement agenda.

A former SSA career official has publicly come forward for the first time to share firsthand knowledge of actions DOGE officials took to “kill off” more than 6,000 immigrants in SSA’s records and its larger plans to mark as dead 2.7 million more individuals. The whistleblower, Jeremiah Schofield, has shared new details of conversations a DOGE staffer had about the specific motivation for this plan: either “the lives of these individuals would be ruined. . . and they would be driven to ‘self-deport’” or “they would have to go to a local Social Security office, at which point SSA field office staff would send them to DHS offices” where officials would “detain them for deportation.”

“Donald Trump has waged war on Social Security, and DOGE has been the tip of the spear, sowing chaos and corruption everywhere,” said Senator Warren. “This looks like an illegal attempt by DOGE to weaponize Social Security to carry out Trump’s cruel immigration agenda.”

“As always with the Trump Administration, cruelty is the point. Thanks to this brave whistleblower’s disclosure, we have more evidence that the Trump Administration used DOGE not just to recklessly slash government programs – they were looking for ways to purposefully hurt people, especially immigrants,” said Senator Blumenthal. “Senator Warren and I are demanding answers about how DOGE and the Trump Administration weaponized the Social Security Administration to carry out its lawless immigration enforcement agenda.”

Senator Warren spearheaded the launch of Senate Democrats’ Social Security War Room, a coordinated effort to protect Social Security and fight back against Trump administration attacks making it harder for Americans to access their benefits. The War Room has succeeded in stopping many harmful policies in their tracks through rigorous oversight. Senator Warren has specifically sounded the alarm on DOGE’s chaos at Social Security, last year leading senators in pressing SSA Commissioner Frank Bisignano on concerns that DOGE efforts to hastily upgrade Social Security tech infrastructure could cause major disruptions for beneficiaries.

In July, Sen. Blumenthal released a PSI Minority staff report unveiling that DOGE generated at least $21.7 billion in waste across the federal government between January and July 2025. The report, “The $21.7 Billion Blunder: Analyzing the Waste Generated by DOGE,” followed a months-long investigation into Elon Musk and DOGE and detailed a comprehensive account of how taxpayer dollars were squandered by DOGE despite its ostensible goal of eliminating government waste. That report followed an April 2025 memo completed by PSI Minority staff that estimated the legal liability Elon Musk was able to avoid through his previous efforts to gut the federal workforce and exert influence over federal agencies while he was at the helm of DOGE. PSI found that Musk and his companies were able to avoid at least $2.37 billion in potential liability due to federal investigations or other regulatory actions.
