The White House and administration grind to a halt

Another day where NSA whistle-blower Ed Snowden has dominated the news, where the US government has looked inept and obsessive, and where Ed has become an even larger global folk hero.

Press TV quotes Secretary of State John Kerry (from CNN) declaring, "People may die as a consequence of what this man did.  It is possible that the United States would be attacked because terrorists may now know how to protect themselves in some way or another that they didn't know before."  This is beyond stupid.

Kerry was building up some good will in the last weeks and had more than enough on his plate -- Syria was supposed to be his big topic this week.

The administration needs to get their crap together.  This is beyond amatuer hour and Barack's already had one term in office.

Kerry's statement?  Let's deal with the facts: It is possible that anything in the world might happen. It is possible that a terrorist could attack tomorrow.  How likely is an attack based upon what Ed Snowden revealed?

Not very likely at all.  There might be some revenge aspect but the world has seen that a healthy portion of Americans are outraged by what was kept secret and support Ed.  That's registering worldwide as well so a vengeance attack, while possible, is also mitigated by that factor.

Is a terrorist attack more likely because all calls are being monitored (one of the revelations)?  No.  None of the revelations make a terrorist attack more likely.  The only thing that does from the revelations is outrage and, again, that's somewhat mitigated by the support within the US for Ed and by the outrage over what the government has done.

John Kerry needs to find another topic real quick.  There are problems in the world.

Ed Snowden isn't one of them.

And this non-stop government obsession, it just makes things worse for Barack.

All that power and he can't catch Ed.

How inept and stupid Barack looks on the world stage right now.

You never do what Barack is doing.  To call it a 'rookie mistake' is to ignore that this is Barack's second term.

Osama bin Laden was labeled a terrorist by the US government.  And various administration officials -- Bully Boy Bush, Dick Cheney, Colin Powell, etc. -- spoke about this in public.

But the Bush administration -- as criminal and inept as it was -- never gave the impression that all business had stopped and an obsession had set in.

Ed Snowden isn't a terrorist.  He's not accused of killing anyone.

So it's even worse that the White House seems obsessed with him.

John Kerry has a job.  It is Secretary of State.  He needs to be focused on that job and the American people need to see him focused on that job.  Nancy Pelosi is really stupid and really frightening to look at.  There's really no need for her to be going out in public to begin with, the Minority Leader of the House has been a public embarrassment since November 2010 when she was demoted to that.  If she does feel the need to go out in public, there's no reason for the idiot to bring up Ed Snowden.

Do we all picture Nance strapping a gun to her ankle, strapping a Bowie knife to another ankle and heading off in search of Ed?

No.

Because that's not her job.  Her job is legislature.  So when those artificially plumped up lips start moving of her own accord, her topics should not include Ed.  The people need to know that the Congress is at work.

They can actually see that.  If they look to the Republicans.  US House Rep Darrell Issa, for example, is still doing the same thing he did before Ed Snowden's name was publicly known.

Nancy goes to a partisan event (Netroots Nation) and makes a spectacle of herself.  She raises the topic of Ed Snowden all on her own (despite the fact that she should have known the crowd supported him), a man objects to her characterization of Ed, she allows the man to be ejected from the event, even as people are calling for the man to be left alone, and then she gets haughty and bitchy.

This is how 73-year-old woman conducts herself?

Both yesterday's State Dept and White House press briefings yesterday focused on Ed Snowden.

Are you seeing the problem yet?

The economy's in the toilet and that's going to get worse when summer's over, not better.  And when people look back and see that Barack's wasted months again?

Is that really how the White House wants 2013 to be remembered when voters go to the polls in November 2014?

It currently appears that all of government has ground to a halt due to an obsession with one person, a whistle-blower.

I personally hope Ed Snowden gets to sanctuary where ever and however he can find it.

Others can disagree and that's fine.

But regardless of what happens to Ed, the White House and Democrat officials are really embarrassing themselves.  They need to find a new focus and they need to show the American people that they are at work.  Eric Holder's Attorney General, all questions about pursuing Snowden should be directed to him or President Barack Obama. And the administration that thinks Ed has done such an awful thing should stop elevating him to folk hero status.

The bumbling throughout the first term was shocking.  That Team Barack still can't get it together to project strength through governance?

If the US is at greater risk of a terrorist threat right now?  It would be because the world sees a hapless and inept team in charge.  It's time for Barack to try to project some strength.  If he can.
