Dr. Jerome Adams, who served as U.S. surgeon general during President-elect Donald Trump's first term, warned on Saturday that the incoming administration needs a "strong infectious disease response plan" as cases rise in three public health threats.
Adams, who was a member of then-president Trump's coronavirus task force in 2020, noted increases in cases of whooping cough, measles, and H5N1, also known as bird flu, in the country in a Saturday post on X, formerly Twitter.
"The new administration had better have a strong infectious disease response plan- and had better ensure public health and vaccine confidence stays high. Or they'll be distracted with outbreaks for 4 years this time instead of 1," he wrote, referencing the COVID-19 pandemic.

But when it comes to Trump’s nomination of Robert F Kennedy Jr, who has for years spread lies and misinformation about vaccines, Cassidy wants a second opinion.
“So I know that sounds novel around here, but I would like to talk to him,” he told The Independent, when
asked about his thoughts on the conspiracist.He added that it “seems
like a lot of stories are being written, and I have to make sure that I
form my opinion on my own.”
Cassidy is not alone. The Independent spoke to many of the Republican senators who are doctors and would be responsible for confirming Kennedy, and specifically asked them about his promotion of the debunked theory that vaccines cause autism.
Almost uniformly, they did not want to speak about Kennedy’s promotion of health misinformation.
I always find it interesting the way the press interprets things. Sometimes, they make a leap because they know more than their sharing. That may be the case for the above. Eric Garcia may know much more than he's able to report.
But there are reasons that US senators would not commit to how they would vote for a proposed nominee.
I wanted Joe Biden to step down from the race. He did and that was a brave and smart thing to do and I applaud him for doing so.
But during that time once the calls started and before the Sunday when the news came down, I dictated many snapshots noting Nancy Pelosi and each time I pulled it.
The press was getting something seriously wrong. I wanted Joe out. It's not my job to cover everything -- a topic we'll come back to in a second.

At that point, Joe hadn't stepped down. Which meant he might not. That would have led to a contested selection on the convention floor.
Reporters are general studies majors. Little more than that.
They never grasped that Nancy knows the rules -- as did I on this, 2008 gave you a preview if you were paying attention. You're not supposed to be choosing sides. Nancy was ensuring that if this issue became a floor battle at the convention that she had a vote.
Nancy knew that and I know that because I checked with one of her aids. She was all for others making their choice known. Especially super delegates. You need to look at the rules sometime.
Nancy refusing to weigh in publicly gave her a needed vote if the primary was contested. And, no, she didn't want -- nor did I -- Joe's supporters to grasp that because what they were doing publicly was going to limit their role at a convention if the nominee was settled at the convention.
I have no idea whether Eric Garcia knows more than he's letting on but the senators in question may have many reasons for not going public. It's the same thing, please remember, that we saw with Republicans expressing doubts but not saying, "I won't vote to confirm Matt Gaetz."
An angry e-mail to the public account is furious that I have not noted Sarah McBride. She's the newly elected Congress member from Delaware that Nancy Mace and Conversion Case Mike Johnson are trying to deny bathroom rights to.

Three out LGBTQ+ Congress members have blasted “holier-than-thou” Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson (LA) for banning Rep.-elect Sarah McBride (D-DE), the sole transgender House member, from using bathrooms in the Capitol that match her gender identity. The queer Congress members also criticized Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) for introducing legislation that would ban trans people from using restrooms in any federal government buildings nationwide.
Despite initially promising to “accommodate the needs of every single person” and treat “all persons … with dignity and respect,” today Johnson announced that all single-sex restrooms, changing rooms, and locker rooms in the Capitol buildings are reserved for individuals whose “biological sex” matches them. His announcement threats from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Mace (R-SC) to beat up and intimidate McBride if she tried to access women’s spaces in the Capitol.

I'm tired and I'm tired of being online. And like so many who were betrayed and stabbed in the back, I'm seriously looking at what I'm comfortable doing going forward. I'm not going to provide free labor. Too many have used Black women for that. It's why many of us are doing vacations. It's why we're tired of helping every Democratic cause in the world when there's no reciprocity.
As Lauryn Hill sings, "Tell me, who I have to be to get some reciprocity?"
We're tired of the one way street. So you're really e-mailing the wrong one if you think it's time to tell me what I should be doing for you -- especially when what you want me to do is something I've already done but you couldn't check that out before e-mailing.
Ava and I will probably be covering the topic at THIRD. Probably. We've got other things to cover like a media suffering from amnesia. We've got a lot. And I've done my share and then some. Not interested in hearing from others what I should be doing at this point. Not after so many of you couldn't vote in your best interests and were too blinded by racism and sex to support Kamala Harris.
That will never look good. I hope the people who trashed her grasp that.
20 years from now, THE NATION will have to explain how they let their journalists trash Kamala over and over. Amy Goodman will probably be dead by then -- her health is getting much worse -- but this will be a mark on DEMOCRACY NOW!'s history -- how they aired one segment after another attacking Kamala from the start of August through October 30th.
She was a qualified woman who could have been the first Black woman to be president.
And yet 'left' media attacked and savaged her.
As the county becomes less White -- and it is happening -- it's not a frightening thought unless you're MAGA -- it's going to be harder and harder for White 'lefties' to defend their racism.
I'm doing just fine at this site without input from outsiders, thank you very much.

I'd stop right now and take a four year vacation -- I encourage anyone betrayed to do that or take less or take more -- were it not for the fact that things are about to get very scary in this country. She's right, when her safety becomes at risk, she can't continue to do so. I'm a little more fortunate and can do it for a little bit longer than her most likely -- although my health isn't that good so who knows how long it holds on?

Sam Seder doesn't want to cover it. Most of the White people -- Francie Pants of THE BITUATION doesn't want to cover it. They ignore this topic because they were part of the betrayal. Not as awful as racists Amy Goodman and Katrina vanden Heuvel, but, yeah, they did take part in it.

Mike is exactly right, it would be "Ms Clinton." Hillary Clinton in 2024 is not "Mrs Clinton." And to use even "Ms" you'd need to be using "Mr" for Bernie Sanders and the other men. He did use "Sanders" and "Senator Sanders." But not Clinton. And not former Secretary Clinton or former Senator Clinton.

By me, I've tried to say if it doesn't apply to you and I've tried to use "some." I did call out the nonsense that I'VE HAD IT did -- with regards to labor. But I haven't stopped highlighting the two women -- they're both White. I think they make good points.
I'd love it if they'd talk about what Black women -- the betrayal, for example. That said, they never deployed sexism or racism towards Kamala and not a lot of White YOUTUBERS can make that claim.

We started nothing them because I wanted Joe out as the nominee and they were a podcast calling for it. I don't believe I ever praised them. That would be due to the rank sexism of the hosts.
That's POD SAVE AMERICA's Jon groping Hillary Clinton's cut out. They thought, the two tiny dicked boys, that this was appropriate behavior.
So, no, I never praised Jon or his co-hosts.
Lovett is gay and he'd be the most likely for us to continue to note; however, he thought the weekend after the election was when we needed jokes. And his jokes attacked Kamala. Oh, White boy, I hope you've got plans to save yourself because when you pulled that stunt, you pissed off a lot of Black women and a lot of Black men.
And, no, it's not racism to call out the people in Dearborn and Hamtramck who voted for Jill Stein and Donald Trump or who refused to vote to avoid voting for Kamala.
No. Michael Flynn -- Trump's boi -- started visiting in 2023 to win the Muslim and Arab American votes. They made their decision -- the residents of those two cities -- not to vote for Kamala. I'm holding them accountable the same way I held Bully Boy Bush's 2004 voters accountable.
And they're on their own and we're laughing at them as they realize how they got duped and how screwed they now are.

It's been just over a week since Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election. After promising peace in the Middle East, he also won over the city of Dearborn, which has the largest Arab American population in the nation.
Trump got 42.5% to Harris' 36.3% and was the first Republican to win the city since George W. Bush in 2000, according to the Associated Press.
A letter was sent to Trump last week on behalf of the Lebanese-American community. Read the letter below:

Representatives from the Middle East and North Africa American Chamber of Commerce in Dearborn published the letter, urging the president-elect to fulfill his promise to end the war in the Middle East.
"We want to make sure that what was said during the campaign and leading up to the election that President-elect Trump remains true to those commitments," said Faye Nemer, CEO and founder of MENA American Chamber of Commerce.
But only a few days after Trump's win, some of the Dearborn residents who voted for Trump had concerns including more recent escalation in the Middle East and some of Trump's cabinet nominees.
Did you get played? Oh, too bad. You couldn't vote for this country, the one you live in, the one you're a citizen of. You couldn't vote to save democracy. And you're a highly racist community and a highly sexist one. You're not helped when outlets like MOTHER JONES pretend you're left and progressive. You're not. You are a very racist, sexist and homophobic town. And that's why you spent the last four years -- in Dearborn and in Hamtramck -- cozying up to right-wingers to oppress the LGBTQ+ community.
You didn't want Kamala. So you really didn't want a cease-fire.
Don't think you're going to get one under Trump -- could be wrong, but don't think so. I am pretty sure, thought, that Trump and his Cabinet will work overtime trying to deport from your community. I'm pretty sure, though, that Trump is going to criminalize protest and free speech. And I warned repeatedly of that. I noted that Hamas is a terrorist organization per the US government. A lot of you have unfortunately equated Hamas with Palestinians in your writings and public comments. That gives Trump what he needs to imprison or deport you.
Maybe next time, put your hate and resentment to the side and vote for the country you live in and the democracy you live under.
Until then, don't be surprised that no one wants to help you here or to pick back up your cause in Gaza.
And if the elevator starts to break down? Go crazy.
