Dear Friend,
We have the power to make real change in 2018. But taking action is up to you.
In 2017 we fought together in the Resistance to counter the constant attack on our climate and communities from Trump and his billionaire fossil fuel industry friends. In 2018, we need to take our fight to a new level. Together we have the power to create a better future for all.
The day after Trump’s first State of the Union, many of our partner organizations, movement leaders and community organizers will gather in Washington D.C. to share our plan to win. The event will feature me, Senator Bernie Sanders, 350.org co-founder Bill McKibben, Jacqueline Patterson from the NAACP, Cherri Foytlin from BOLD Louisiana, Adriana Voss-Andreae from 350PDX, Varshini Prakash from the Sunrise Movement, Jessica Lorena Rangel from Eyes of a Dreamer, and many more exciting speakers.
We will also be blessed with a performance from Antonique Smith and the Howard University Gospel Choir. Antonique is one of our amazing People’s Climate Music collaborators and a Grammy-nominated musician, actress, and environmental champion. She recently performed live in Times Square on national TV during the New Years Eve to inspire climate action.
If you can’t make the event in D.C., you can join one of the hundreds of watch parties around the country to learn more about the climate crisis and what local leaders are doing to fight back in 2018. And during your watch party, you can plot out what you need to do to win in your community with other leaders who know how crucial our collective action is.
We have the power to defend our rights, protect our air, water and communities, and enforce the protections when Trump is failing to do so. Young people and people of color are standing up for a clean energy revolution using culture, unity, and love to secure the fossil free world that we urgently need and deserve. Communities of color and young people are putting forth the leadership that is needed to make our movement as big, broad and powerful as it needs to be to win.
We all have a role to play and the time is now to turn our resistance into a vision for our future that is fossil free at last. Join us to light the path forward towards victory.
The fossil fuel industry is a death sentence to future generations, so we must resist!
Rise with us! Together we have power.
For Future Generations,
