Congresswoman Susan Davis Urges the Senate Back Into Session to Vote on Legislation to Prevent Gun Violence

US House Rep Susan Davis' office issued the following on Wednesday:

Washington, August 7, 2019

Following three tragic shootings in less than a week - two within 24 hours of each other - that left more than 30 dead, Congresswoman Susan Davis called on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to call the Senate back into session to vote on gun violence prevention legislation. Davis joined her 213 of her House Democratic colleagues in sending a letter to the Majority Leader demanding that the Senate return to pass H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act and H.R 1112, the Enhanced Background Checks Act, which were passed by the House more than 150 days ago.
“The American people are tired of waiting for the Senate to do something - anything - to keep people safe,” said Davis. “The bills passed by the House back in February are bipartisan and increased background checks enjoy overwhelming support of the American people. There is no excuse not to pass these bills.”
The Member’s wrote:
“This inaction must stop. We know background checks save lives.  Every day background checks stop more than 170 felons and 50 domestic abusers from getting a gun.  Any delay to pass commonsense gun violence prevention legislation only increases the chances that more innocent people in America may suffer from the tragic and needless loss caused by gun violence.”
