Climate is A Racial Justice Issue

Tell Your Elected Officials:

If Black Lives Matter, The Climate matters.
Stop the Trump Administration’s Trump’s Interior’s plan to Melt the Arctic and Destroy the Planet

ADD YOUR NAME

Friend,

The Trump Administration is trampling on the rights of Indigeonous people and accelerating the climate crisis by opening up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling. It’s up to the people to stop them.

ADD YOUR NAME: Tell Congress to stop the Trump administration’s plans to drill for oil in the Arctic!

Climate is a racial justice issue.1 We at Hip Hop Caucus have been fighting for years to ensure that an anti-Black system does not destroy this planet and our communities. At a time when the urgency of climate action is needed, Donald Trump has finally succeeded in his long standing plan to allow fossil fuel corporations to spoil one of America’s last unspoiled wildlife refuges.

We stand with the Gwich’in people in Alaska. They have spoken in clear opposition to this dangerous rush to drill in the Arctic Refuge. The Refuge has sustained the Gwich’in people for thousands of years – they in fact call the coastal plain “The Sacred Place Where Life Begins.”

The Gwich’in are spiritually and culturally tied to the health of the Porcupine Caribou Herd and the coastal plain. Protecting the caribou is a matter of basic human rights for them. Drilling threatens to alter caribou migrations and populations, risking the Gwich’in way of life.

If oil and gas companies do in fact begin drilling, this would have a DEVASTATING impact upon the entire planet. Potentially a fatal one.

The Arctic is ground zero for the climate crisis; temperatures in the Arctic are rising at twice the rate of the rest of the planet.

We must bring our voices together and make sure that Congress hears us when we demand that they stop the Trump administration from drilling in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge!

The Administration’s rush to sell-off the Arctic Refuge must be halted. Trump’s Department of the Interior is barreling forward with plans for destructive oil and gas exploration and drilling, disregarding the serious biological, cultural and climate impacts fossil fuel extraction will have in the rapidly-warming Arctic.

The American people were promised a robust, scientifically sound review process with public comment and full tribal consultation. But actions speak louder than words and the Trump administration is rushing headlong to lease the area at the expense of science and sound process.

Together, we are calling upon Congress to put an immediate stop to a selling of public resources that would result not just in devastation for the arctic, but have devastating warming effects on a Global climate which is becoming rapidly uninhabitable for the human race.

Thanks,

Hip Hop Caucus
