Climate Activism at the 2021 Bioneers Conference
One key focal point of the upcoming Bioneers Conference will be the pressing, existential need to build far broader, more diverse and effective local, national and global climate movements...and quickly. Some of the most renowned contemporary climate activism luminaries will share their strategies on how to achieve that goal. These will include: Bill McKibben, the most influential thinker and organizer of our era in this domain, who will share new insights on how to build cross-generational movements and to focus pressure on key leverage points in the economic system; the Amazonian Indigenous leader Nemonte Nenquimo, winner of many prestigious awards including the Goldman Environmental Prize, who will explain why supporting the struggles of frontline Indigenous communities to protect their lands is central to stabilizing climate; and the inspiring young Latinx activist Nalleli Cobo, who will explain why a climate movement that doesn’t prioritize environmental justice is doomed to fail.
There will also be a range of panel discussions covering such topics as: Indigenous-led climate struggles (featuring such luminaries as Julian Noisecat, Eriel Deranger, Nick Estes, Clayton Thomas-Muller, and Naelyn Pike); the key role of women in building and leading more effective movements; the central place of youth at the forefront of the global climate awakening featuring this year’s winners of the prestigious Brower Youth Awards; a session on how to hold the fossil fuel industry accountable led by Jason Mark, editor of Sierra magazine; and much more. |
