We Now Know

Dear Common Ills

After yesterday’s U.S. Senate vote on the Women’s Health Protection Act we all now know where every Senator stands on protecting or destroying the protections of Roe v. Wade plus ensuring that the extreme anti-abortion trigger laws in Texas, Louisiana and 24 other states can never take effect.

Senators who voted for it deserve our thanks. That’s every Democratic Senator other than Joe Manchin.

Every Republican Senator voted against protecting a woman’s right to choose. They need to be called out and their vote condemned right now.

I urge you to thank or call out your Senators – right now while this is before you.

For 50 years most Republicans have attacked safe and legal abortion. But when the shocking draft of the Supreme Court’s majority decision overturning Roe was leaked right-wing Republican Senators scurried like rats to deny, remain silent and dodge their responsibility for creating this disaster.

They must be held to account. And this starts with calling them out and putting them on notice. And, at the same time thanking pro-choice Democratic Senators and strengthening their resolve to fight.

Please do that right now by sending your message of condemnation or thanks to your two Senators today.

First Step in Preparing for Battle Ahead

Make no mistake. Putting your Senators on notice is just the first step.

If the Supreme Court follows its draft decision and overturns Roe in late June or July, their decision will trigger extreme and vicious anti-abortion laws outlawing or criminalizing abortion in 24 states.

No exception for rape. No exception for incest. Some have no exception to save the life of the woman.

Don’t think for a moment that if you live in a “blue” or safe state you don’t have to worry. Wrong!

Senator Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has already pledged that if Republicans regain control of the Senate in the mid-terms he’ll press for a federal, nationwide ban on abortion. The reproductive rights of every woman in every state will be wiped out.

I’ll be writing you shortly to outline the steps we can all take to make sure we keep Democratic pro-choice control of the House and increase Democratic pro-choice numbers in the Senate.
