IAVA Remembers Steve Robinson, Army Vet and Advocate

IAVA CEO and Founder reflects on Steve Robinson’s dedication to veterans

New York, NY (June 16, 2014) – Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), the nation’s largest non-profit, non-partisan organization representing post-9/11 veterans and their families, mourns the loss of Steve Robinson, Army veteran and advocate, who passed away last week.

IAVA CEO and Founder Paul Rieckhoff released the following statement:

“All of us at IAVA are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend Steve,” said IAVA CEO and Founder Paul Rieckhoff. “He was a true patriot and lion of a man. Steve was an inspiring mentor to the veteran community. He led the National Gulf War Resource Center for many years, and recently launched and led Prudential's program to support vets.”

Rieckhoff added, “Nobody was more passionate and more tenacious in advocating for our community. He showed me, and many others, the ropes. He took us by the hand, introduced us on the Hill, and always had our back. And he got behind IAVA in the very early days. He loved being a Ranger, his fellow vets, his family and his motorcycle. He was a giant who embodied all that is good about our community. And he will be missed dearly. IAVA will keep his wife and family in our thoughts and prayers.”

In honor of his work, Tragedy Assistance Program For Survivors (TAPS), has set up the STEVE ROBINSON HEROES LEGACY FUND. Bonnie Carroll, TAPS Founder and President, said the fund will support suicide postvention and prevention efforts, the National Military Survivor Helpline, and TAPS camps for grieving military children. For more information, visit www.taps.org.

As information becomes available about memorial services, IAVA will be sure to post it.

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (www.IAVA.org) is the nation's first and largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization representing veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan and has more than 270,000 Member Veterans and civilian supporters nationwide. Celebrating its tenth year, IAVA recently received the highest rating - four-stars - from Charity Navigator, America's largest charity evaluator.
