Isakson Statement on Passing of Longtime Georgia Veterans Service Commissioner Pete Wheeler
WASHINGTON
– U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., chairman of the Senate Committee
on Veterans’ Affairs, today released the
following statement on the passing of Pete Wheeler, who served as the
Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Veterans Service from 1954 to
2015:
“Commissioner Pete Wheeler dedicated a
lifetime of service to our state and nation and his fellow veterans. He
made tremendous strides in modernizing and advancing services to
benefit Georgia’s
veterans and their families. He will be deeply missed by all Georgians
and the millions of veterans across the country who have benefitted from
his immeasurable contribution and courageous leadership.”

The Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs is chaired by U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., in the 114th Congress.
Isakson is a veteran himself – having
served in the Georgia Air National Guard from 1966-1972 – and has been a
member of the Senate VA Committee since he joined the Senate in 2005.
Isakson’s home
state of Georgia is home to more than a dozen military installations
representing each branch of the military as well as more than 750,000
veterans.
