NEW YORK, NY (September 11, 2017) – Today, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), the leading voice of Post-9/11 veterans, honor and remember those who lost their lives in New York City, Shanksville, Pa. and at the Pentagon 16 years ago on September 11, 2001.
Below is a statement from IAVA Founder and CEO Paul Rieckhoff, who deployed to Ground Zero on 9/11:
“The events of 9/11 defined a lasting call to service and dedication to their country for the millions of veterans who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan and their families, with consequences stretching far beyond that terrible day. As September 11, 2001 moves further and further into history, we want to ensure that the significance of the day is never forgotten. IAVA calls on Americans to reflect on the heroism of first responders, servicemembers and veterans. Along with advocating for over a decade for veterans and their families, IAVA has advocated for first responders and fought to pass the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act. We remain committed to advocating on behalf of the brave men and women who serve our country, in the military and as first responders.”
