I try to be kind -- or what passes for it.
But . . .
- Go home, Tillerson tells Iranian-backed militias in Iraq http://reut.rs/2zGynmy
- Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says it's time for Iranian-backed militias to leave Iraq http://cnn.it/2zGxr1G
He's the Secretary of State and he is as uninformed as the State Dept spokesperson was last week.
Tillerson seems not to understand the militias are Iraqi
They aren't Iranian, they are Iranian-backed.
It's an important point especially when you're trying to 'pull the strings' on Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
- 1. There are no Iranian militias in Iraq. There are about 30 Iranian advisors to Iraqi paramilitary forces.
- 2. Turkey also has advisors in Iraq, as do the Italians, Norwegians and others. And there are many American foreign fighters in Iraq.
- 3. German have advisors in Iraq whose weapons were used by Peshmerga against rival Yazidi factions & central govt security forces in Kirkuk
- 4. Tillerson forgot the thousands of foreign fighters the Saudis have employed in Yemen.
Tillerson fancies himself a puppet master but he's coming off more like a ventriloquist dummy.
In fairness, REUTERS cites an unnamed American official insisting that the Secretary was "referring to the PMF and the Quds Force, the foreign paramilitary and espionage arm of the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard (IRGC)." I'm unaware of reports of them being present in the attack on the Kurds but Tillerson may know things not reported.
If they did know this, the US government, their refusal to stand with the Kurds is even more appalling.
- A failure by the United States to defend its allies or promote new political arrangements for the two Arab states will lead only to more war
- Trump remained passive as Iranian-led militia forces helped the Iraqi army push U.S.-allied Iraqi Kurds out of the disputed city of Kirkuk.
By the way, what's going on with all the protests by Kurds?
Didn't THE GUARDIAN just tell us this weekend that the whole thing was over?
Yes, those idiots did tell the world that.
But in the real world . . .
#Zakho. North of#Mosul. The West betrays#Peshmerga. But the#Kurds demonstrate against Iranian and Iraqi occupation#SupportKurdistan.- Thousands of people take to the streets in
#Kurdistan's Zakho, condemning Hashd al-Shaabi and Iraqi army attacks on Peshmerga positions.
