Trump is not the first president to attempt to do away with Social Security. But it looks like he is the one who’s going to make it happen. Trump’s plan to halt the payroll tax means that by 2021 many families who depend on Social Security will lose their benefits entirely.1
This President has allowed COVID-19 to ravage our communities--particularly older people and people of color. Defunding Social Security is just one more way this administration harms our communities.
This plan only makes sense as an attack on Social Security. Eliminating the funding that working people pay into Social Security with every paycheck by definition only helps people who are still getting a paycheck. This so-called “payroll tax cut” does nothing to help the millions of unemployed people facing eviction, it does nothing to help people who are still employed but had their hours cut. But it will have a devastating impact on Social Security’s finances.
Fight back: Stop Donald Trump’s plan to defund and destroy Social Security!
Losing social security would be the death knell for vulnerable Americans, andour Black seniors would be the hardest hit. We cannot let this happen.
