No final results on the election, 12-year-old girl forced into marriage

Dilan Sirwan (RUDAW) reports, "Three rockets hit near Baghdad’s Green Zone overnight, the first such attack in more than three months. There are no reports of injuries."  Sinan Mahmoud (THE NATIONAL) adds, "All three were Katyusha rockets – a rail-mounted weapon based on a Second World War-era Soviet design. They were fired from the Bayaa district, a Shiite area in south-western Baghdad, a police officer said."  As RES notes, "It came at a time when the recount of votes from the early parliamentary elections of October 10 continues."

That's right, October 31st, last day of the month and still waiting on the official results from the election held October 10th.

Maybe someday, right?

Nuri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, sent a letter to the Sadr faction calling for meetings to reach an understanding to form a new Iraqi government.

In the meantime, GULF NEWS notes:

A 12-year-old Iraqi girl has been reportedly forced to marry her step-mother’s brother, in yet the latest case of child marriage in the country of 40 million people, local media reported.

The case has come to light when the girl’s mother appeared in a video seeking the help of the public to save her daughter from her father’s aggression, who decided to marry her off to his second wife’s brother.

The video of the minor’s mother claiming that her ex has forced her daughter to marry off under a customary and illegal contract has gone viral on social media, sparking anger amid calls to organise a campaign to pressure the authorities to take action.

However, the Iraqi Ministry of Interior said that Sharia and law authorise the marriage of a minor by her father.
