The Parsec Award-Winning Audio Drama Hits the Stage! |
After two seasons and twenty-nine episodes of fun, weird, and ambitious audio drama, The Gray Area is hitting the stage for a special "one night only" performance of seven tales on October 16, 2021, at 7:00 PM, The show, which was funded by a City Artists Corp grant that our team received from the New York Foundation for the Arts, is free to the public and will occur at the Gene Frankel Theatre, located at 24 Bond Street. So if you live in a New York City (or nearby), this is a rare opportunity to see how we make audio drama. (However, the show will be a hybrid between audio drama and something that has been specifically created for the stage. A certain insignificant bald gentleman who works for peanuts will be doing foley work and sound cues on stage.) We were incredibly honored that our humble little production was considered worthy of the NYFA's artistic standards. So we're putting on a wildly ambitious performance featuring eleven of our cast members and mostly new material. In addition to theatrical adaptations of "The Head Doctor" and some of "West with the Light", most of the show's 90 minutes will involve stories that take place somewhere between the second and the third seasons (as well as a few points before the first season). There will be parallel universes, questions of moral relativism, a comedic story taking place on the World War I trenches, many family lines that extend across more than a century, high-octane banter involving the Receptionist, and an emotional exploration of Miss Gaskell's past. While the live show has been designed to introduce a new audience to the overarching mythos, there are all also many connections to those who have followed our audio drama from the beginning! So feel free to catch up with the twenty-nine episodes we have released so far. Many fan favorites -- including the Receptionist, Daniel Mannix, and Miss Gaskell -- will be appearing on stage for this! Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Proof of vaccination will be required on entry. However, we have set up an Event Brite page for those who would like to secure attendance. You can also head to our Facebook event page. We also released an audio trailer on our Instagram page. The poster art is featured below: |
