Friend, We are on the brink of climate catastrophe, but everyone’s pretending like that’s fine. The IPCC report made it clear: If we don’t radically change course on climate, we’re going to see a level of disaster nearly unprecedented in human history – and Black and Brown people across the Global South will be first to pay the price. Experts estimate that between 31 and 72 million people will be displaced by 2050 across Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. Even more will be forced from their homes and communities by devastatingly powerful natural disasters. Odds are, they’ll be abandoned by their politicians afterwards, too. These dynamics are mirrored in microcosm in the United States, where the most vulnerable communities in places like New Orleans, LA and Norfolk, VA are already feeling climate impacts. It’s sickening. As our leaders ignore the potentially extinction-level impacts of fossil fuels, corporate billionaires continue to rake in higher and higher profits, while receiving government subsidies too. Meanwhile, Black and Brown people will lose their homes, jobs, communities, and even lives because of this climate exploitation. We can’t just let that happen. In solidarity, |
