Common Ills, Women’s Equality Day (today!) began as a celebration of the right to vote. But that was never meant to be where it ended. Just over two months ago, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. You can understand why today feels like a cruel joke... for the first time ever, the high court has denied a previously recognized right in the devastating Dobbs decision. This is exactly why the Equal Rights Amendment is so critically needed. |

The US House of Representatives has already removed the original time limit set on the ERA. Now the House is advancing House Res. 891, which expresses the sense of the House that the Equal Rights Amendment to the US Constitution is valid. This means that the ERA has already been ratified (and officially recognized by the House). The wording of House Res. 891 was intentionally modeled after language used to confirm the validity of the very important 14th Amendment and its Equal Protection Clause. The good news? 182 members of the House have already signed on to the resolution as co-sponsors. The bad news? We are aiming for 218 total co-sponsors, the majority of the House, to sign on to House Res. 891. That has to happen as quickly as possible. To do that we need your help. Tell Your Representative You Support HR 891. We all know that right-wing extremists will not stop with abortion bans. Contraception, equal pay, and same-sex marriage rights are all on the line. So today, in honor of Women’s Equality Day, will you take immediate action to ensure equality and pave the way for the ERA to finally be added to the Constitution? Your action today tells your Member of Congress that this issue matters to you. For equality,
