Thomas Linzey Thomas Linzey serves as senior legal counsel for the Center for Democratic and Environmental Rights. He is widely recognized as the founder of the contemporary “community rights” and “Rights of Nature” movements which have resulted in the adoption of several hundred laws across the United States and around the world.

Mari Margil Mari Margil is the Executive Director of the Center for Democratic and Environmental Rights (CDER). She works with civil society; national, state, and local governments; tribal nations; and indigenous communities in the U.S., Ecuador, Australia, the Philippines, Nepal, and elsewhere, to advance Rights of Nature frameworks. She consulted with Ecuador’s Constituent Assembly, helping to draft the world’s first Rights of Nature constitutional provisions. |

We're excited to introduce the first Bioneers Learning Community Conversation of 2023, in which Thomas Linzey and Mari Margil will guide us through an introduction to the emerging Rights of Nature movement. This Community Conversation will serve as an engaging crash course. Attendees will watch a presentation by Thomas and Mari about the Rights of Nature movement, then join a facilitated group discussion, where they'll have the opportunity to share their thoughts and ask questions. This event is ideal for anyone interested in embarking on conversations around how indigenous communities are adopting and enforcing rights of nature laws. It will also give anyone who is considering taking the above Rights of Nature course a taste of what to expect.
