15 years later and the Iraq War remains both illegal and a failure

Four women have been assassinated in in the course of two months. These deaths have followed a pattern of targeting women promoting , raising fears of further attacks on prominent figures. REST IN POWER

  1. Women in Iraq are receiving death threats saying 'you're next' after extremists shot and killed a 22-year-old social media star

  1. “In , Thursday has become a bloody day” for women. “There are some people who do not want women to have freedom.” Four prominent Iraqi women were killed or died under mysterious circumstances within 6 weeks.

As an Iraqi women who has watched the struggles of my friends & family, I find this dehumanising. Our country is ridiculed by corruption and weakened by the decisions made by monsters. Iraq has many problems that we need to speak up about.

The murders are getting some attention from the press.  Tallha Abdulrazaq (ARAB WEEKLY) notes the deaths and offers:

While these killings have brought women’s rights in Iraq to the fore once more, it is important to note that violence against women is nothing new and women’s rights have fallen precipitously since the US-led invasion in 2003.
Late last year, Shia Islamists linked to Iran almost pushed through legislation that would have effectively legalised paedophilia, allowing men to marry girls under the age of 9. These extreme conservative factions have repeatedly attempted to push this law through, which sets a frightening scene for the state of children’s and women’s rights in Iraq.

If Iraq is to be taken seriously as a modern democracy, it needs to make sure women are protected and allowed to express opinions freely without fear of violence.

The violence against women includes attempts to force girls into marriage.

  1. Let the girls play with their friends, let them go to school, and let them decide about their life.

All groups are at risk in Iraq and that includes LGBTQ members and people suspected of being one.

Iraq is the country the US invaded to "save" it from Saddam and to punish him for his nonexistent WMDs and non-involvement in 9/11. This is the result - a complete abrogation of human rights, decency and the rule of law. What a shame.

So much for a war of 'liberation' and promoting 'democracy.'

15 years since the Iraq War started and it's still going.  Who had their life improved?  The children born with birth defects due to the (illegal) weapons the US and the UK used?

15 years later.

  1. The called on to set up an institution dedicated to , as more than half the population is made up of women, yet no woman has been placed in a leading position.

15 years later.

War is not the answer.
