FEMINIST AGENDA RISING – OUR TIME IS NOW: Second call for conference workshop proposals

March 14, 2019 Dear NOW Activist, The 2019 National NOW Conference will be held July 19 - July 21 at the Hilton Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn. We hope that you will be able to join us for a weekend of inspiring speakers, informative workshops, and planning for a momentous year in 2020! The theme for the conference this year is Feminist Agenda Rising – Our Time is NOW. The conference will focus on moving our progressive agenda forward and bringing us closer to the societal changes that will achieve equality for all women. We will talk about how to make our vision of a fairer and more equal feminist future a reality. We need your ideas about how NOW’s grassroots can make our feminist agenda a reality. So, I am delighted to invite you to submit a workshop proposal for the conference. The deadline for completed submissions is March 31, 2019. Workshop selection should be finalized by the first week of May to ensure panelists have adequate time to arrange travel. Be sure to read the instructions on the workshop form as we have limitations on audio-visual availability. As usual we look for workshop proposals that will share skill-building tips, membership recruitment and chapter strengthening, interviewing candidates for political endorsements, making alliances with organizations that share our values to enhance our voices for change, and, of course, learning how to use the latest advocacy tools via social media. Workshop topics should address one or more of topics that fall under NOW’s six core issues: reproductive rights and justice, economic justice, ending racism, LGBQTIA+ equality, ending violence against women, and enshrining women’s equality in the U.S. Constitution. If progress is being made in your states on any of our core issues and your chapter has been involved, share this exciting information with us. Help train our feminist activists by submitting your workshop proposal. Please remember that we look for panels that offer a diversity of voices, including diversity of race/ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, gender identity and ability. Other important notes include: Travel: NOW is unable to pay travel, lodging, or dining expenses for workshop presenters. Workshop presenters attending the conference for just their presentation may pay the one-day registration rate or utilize the sliding scale. Handouts: Please bring enough materials to distribute to a minimum of 50 participants. Technology: Regretfully, most workshop rooms will NOT have projectors or screen setups, due to prohibitively high costs. We have few rooms with a projector and screen available and we'll assign them on a first-come, first-serve basis. The deadline to submit a workshop proposal is March 31, 2019!
