New Zealand plans to leave as Matthew Tueller finally makes it to Baghdad

So when does the US pull its troops out of Iraq?



Does that day ever come?

One day has arrived, the US finally has an ambassador in Iraq.  AFP reports Matthew Tueller submitted his credentials in Baghdad today.  There hasn't been a US ambassador in Iraq since January.  Though everyone loves to blame Donald Trump, this one isn't his fault.  He nominated Tueller back in November.  The US Senate refused to hold confirmation hearings for months and months.  Even with ISIS back on the rise, even with the previous ambassador departing Iraq.  They were in no hurry at all.

    The U.S. Senate confirmed the nomination of Ambassador Matthew Tueller to be the Ambassador to Iraq. The U.S. Mission in Baghdad sends its congratulations and warm wishes to Ambassador Tueller and looks forward to his arrival.

And Tueller wasn't a 'hard' nominee.  He was confirmed to two ambassador posts during the presidency of Barack Obama.  He was not a new nominee the Congress had to begin vetting.

    President received the credentials of ambassadors of New Zealand and the United States to Iraq Tredene Cherie Dobson and Matthew Tueller, at the Presidential Office. His Excellency expressed his wishes for success to the two new ambassadors in their tasks.
