NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - (Red Bird 10034) Out of New York, this magnificent single issued in August of 1965 is probably one of the finest performances that Miss Ellie Greenwich ever put to recording tape. While rolling in the dough from all of the hits that she and husband Jeff Barry had written and recorded as well as the loads of background and demo work they lent their talents to, Ellie along with Jeff and producer, George 'Shadow' Morton composed this haunting tune. The initial idea was to have Ellie travel around the country and abroad to promote the record and her career as a solo artist. The idea soon circled the drain when the thought of Ellie traipsing all over the place focusing on singing and performing rather than maintaining their lucrative career as songwriters didn't sit well with her hubby. Thus, one of the most complex and majestic singles ever to grace the Red Bird Records label tanked and eventually became one of the most sought after among collectors. The stereo version of 'You Don't Know' has been available on vinyl and CD formats since the 1980's and sounds wonderful but it is the original mono styrene single version with rich, deep echo spilling from the grooves that really showcases the production in all of it's intended grandeur.
