Here’s your wrap of news for the week gone by: Pinjda Tod Activist Natasha Narwal was released from custody after Delhi High Court provided her with interim bail on Monday morning to perform the last rites of her father, Mahavir Narwal. He died Sunday after contracting the novel coronavirus. Natasha had been in custody for almost a year after being arrested last year for alleged conspiracy linked to the Delhi riots that raged through the national capital in February 2020. A case was filed against her under the stringent anti-terror law - the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. She has been granted bail for three weeks. An FIR has been filed against actress Munmun Dutta for using a casteist slur in a recent video that she posted online. Dalit rights activist Rajat Kalsan registered a complaint against Dutta at Hansi Police Station in Hissar. The FIR was filed against the actress under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. After being criticised for her casteist slur, Munmun Dutta trimmed her video and issued an apology stating ‘language barriers’ as a cause for ‘misinterpretation’ Twitter users started trending #ArrestMunmunDutta after the actress used the castiest slur in her video. Chief Justice of India NV Ramana said he was actively considering the proposal to live telecast the proceedings of the Supreme Court. Recalling his days as a journalist, the Chief Justice of India said the media faces great challenges in reporting and came to know that journalists were depending on advocates to get links to cover court proceedings. Thus there was a request to create a mechanism so that the press could attend the hearings, he said. A recent report by the Indian Express has highlighted vaccine inequity among the young, with 85% of vaccines being doled out in just 7 states. Of the 34.66 lakh doses administered from May 1-May 12 to those in the 18-44 age group, over 85% were administered in seven states: Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. The remaining seven “concern states — with more than 1 lakh active cases — administered a dismal 5.86% of the total doses to their 18-44 population. In fact many states have curbed vaccinations to this group because of shortage. A missing person report has been filed with the Delhi Police against home minister Amit Shah over his alleged ‘disappearance at the time of the pandemic’, by Nagesh Kariyappa, general secretary of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI). According to reports, Kariyappa said that politicians are supposed to serve the nation, and not run away from a crisis situation. He further said that the entire country is suffering from a disastrous pandemic and all that the people need now is the government to support the citizens and be answerable for its deeds. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow Feminism In India: Website: https://www.feminisminindia.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/feminisminindia Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/feminisminindia Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/feminismini...
