From time to time, people ask if Norman can ever redeem himself? I always answer that it would require honesty so, no, Norman can't.
Norman doesn't understand journalism anymore than he does honesty.
That was evident with regards to Journalist X. We're calling her Journalist X because she didn't ask Norman to do what he did. If you were around, you know who she is and you know that she's at IN THESE TIMES and you maybe know her husband wrote a real embarrassing piece this weekend. But I don't want her to be the focus here.
Lt Ehren Watada.
While some of us supported him, others like Norman used him.
Lt Ehren Watada was ordered to deploy to Iraq and refused because it was an illegal war and he would be commanding people under him to do illegal things.
Norman was using War Resisters for publicity -- he could only get so much from cock-knocking around with Sean Penn, right?
Ehren was the price -- an officer. And a gentleman? Thoughts of being this century's Debra Winger bumping around in his thick-headed noggin, Norman tried to make Ehren all about himself. It only go worse.
As Ehren Watada was in the midst of his court-martial, Norman demanded that Ehren drop his legal strategy and forget about facing military prison to instead take the stand so that Journalist X wasn't faced with possibly being sent to jail (she never was) for not revealing her sources.
Ehren took a brave stand but that wasn't good enough for Norman. Ehren was facing possible time in a military prison but Norman didn't care.
Instead, it all became about Norman's attempt to 'save' Journalist X.
It was embarrassing and shameful and it was typical Norman.
Some of us had been busing our asses and calling in personal favors (such as to Jann at ROLLING STONE) to get Ehren and his brave stand covered. Now as the trial was going on, Norman was distracting from every issue and making public demands on Ehren.
Norman is forever and always will be trash.
But we're not done with his trashing ways.
If you read his awful piece at SALON, you might not catch that he leaves one obvious politician off the list of Iraq War pimps -- Barack Obama.
Barack didn't keep his promise to end the Iraq War. Not the timeline, not what he promised at his campaign rallies. And Norman never pressed Barack on it during the 8 years Barack was in the White House. Those eight years found Norman silent on Iraq.
Why was that?
He was on Pacifica in 2007 and 2008 -- as an 'independent' analysist -- talking up Barack. He 'forgot' to tell people he was a pledged delegate for Barack. That would have undercut his so-called independent analysis. He was just whoring.
Now whore like Norman need the money. So he wasn't about to risk the pennies he gets when some local newspaper around the country is stupid enough to reprint one of his syndicated columns. So for those, he included the disclosure that he was a pledged delegate for Barack Obama.
Now his whoring on PACIFICA was accepted by the LA station because they've never had any standards or -- listen to their so-called 'arts' programming -- any taste. But in the Bay Area, Norman's lying and whoring became a big issue and KPFA found that they couldn't continue to book Norman because even though he wasn't disclosing on air, listeners had already caught on to what was actually going on.
Norman whored all he could to get Barack the nomination and then into the White House.
He shouldn't be allowed to cover Iraq now.
He's a dirty cheap whore who used his image and name -- such as they were -- to trick people into believing he was an independent analysist when he was already pledged to the DNC convention to support Barack.
Disclosure matters. He's not a journalist, he's a whore.
