Hi Bioneer,

Each year, the Bioneers Conference serves as a platform for esteemed leaders, researchers, and activists across various disciplines to participate in conversations around pressing topics and address contemporary challenges. These illuminating discussions constitute our afternoon programming — a vibrant array of panels designed to empower the Bioneers community by facilitating learning opportunities and interactive sessions with people affecting real change worldwide.

The lineup for Bioneers 2024 is rapidly taking shape, and we're excited to unveil the initial release of thought-provoking conversations and panelists. (Stay tuned for our announcement of the remaining Bioneers 2024 sessions in late January.)

Colette Pichon Battle

Colette Pichon Battle, a generational native of Bayou Liberty, Louisiana, is an award-winning lawyer and prominent climate justice organizer. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, when Black and Indigenous communities were largely left out of federal recovery systems, Colette led the Gulf Coast Center for Law and Policy (GCCLP) to provide relief and legal assistance to Gulf South communities of color. After 17 years at GCCLP’s helm, as frontline communities from the Gulf South to the Global South face ever more devastating storms, droughts, wildfires, heat, and land loss, she co-founded Taproot Earth to create connections and power across issues, movements, and geographies.

BIONEERS 2024 PANELS

Below are just a few of the many fantastic panels coming to Bioneers 2024. Visit us online to see the growing lineup of afternoon sessions.

Indigenous Forum – Listening to Elders

Unlike “American” culture which fetishizes youth, most traditional cultures deeply honor the wisdom that comes with age and experience. Elders play treasured roles in their communities passing on knowledge, values and practices that keep tribal members healthy in mind, body and spirit. This historic panel features a discussion among four elders who have not only led their own tribes, but are highly influential in broader public conversations about healing, democracy, human land and water rights, and much more. They are cross-cultural bridgers, whose stories have shaped the course of history and will continue for generations to come. Join us to hear from some of the most inspirational elders we know.

This session continues discussions from last year's Bioneers Conference on the intersection between Environmental Justice and Reproductive Justice movements. In this session, two leading researchers seeking to understand the critically important but long overlooked and understudied role of fungal networks in supporting life and regulating climate will discuss their work with the groundbreaking, visionary Society for the Protection of Underground Networks (SPUN), an organization at the forefront of studying and protecting fungal networks all over the world and driving innovation in underground climate and biodiversity science.
