On July 24, senators and representatives of both corporate parties will be giving rounds of applause to Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu—the butcher of Gaza—as he addresses a joint session of Congress. Even while the Democrats and Republicans cheer this war-criminal’s speech, bombs paid for by the American government will be raining down on the defenseless people of Gaza. The medical journal Lancet estimates that nearly 200,000 people have already been killed by Israel’s onslaught. This has to end. To be clear, we are not pleading with the Biden administration and the capitalist politicians. We are not appealing to their bought-and-paid-for union bureaucrats either. In fact, Biden recently called the AFL-CIO his “domestic NATO” alliance. These union bureaucrats are allied with Biden in a war against workers. We are calling on the working class—the international working class—to stop this genocide and war. The fight of workers to defend our interests is necessarily a fight against war. Each year, trillions are now spent on war, which should be used to hire more workers, increase wages, reduce hours, improve safety at work, not to mention build schools, hospitals, roads, and all the things workers need. This demonstration is for Gaza, but it’s also for all of us, the workers of the whole world. It is within our power to stop the descent into World War Three. That means all of us, regardless of what sector of work we're in. Invite your coworkers, spread the word, and come to Washington, D.C. on July 24th. Thank you. Fraternally, Will Lehman |
