Join the SEP/IYSSE at this weekend's demonstrations against school violence

From WSWS:

Dear SEP Supporters,

This weekend, the World Socialist Web Site, Socialist Equality Party and International Youth and Students for Social Equality will be distributing leaflets to and interviewing students and others participating in the demonstrations over school shootings in the US. The demonstrations are significant political events, with some reports that up to one million may attend the protest in Washington, DC.

If you would like to meet the WSWS/SEP/IYSSE at a demonstration near you or help distribute statements, contact us by replying to this email. We will be distributing copies of the IYSSE statement, "The social and political roots of mass shootings in America," which is available to download in pdf format here.

Please also make a donation to the WSWS to help us cover the costs associated with traveling to and reporting on the demonstrations. A donation of $5 will allow us to print 50 leaflets. A donation of $500 will cover the costs of accommodations for our team in Washington, DC.

As we wrote in our perspective published last week:

"The immediate focus of the demonstrations, heavily promoted by the Democratic Party and mainstream media, is on gun control. Within the political establishment, the “solutions” on offer are confined to either greater militarization and policing of schools or restrictions on the purchase of firearms, which will inevitably be used to increase the powers of the state.

"The Republicans and Democrats alike ignore the underlying causes of school violence—unprecedented social inequality, unending war, the consequences of the militarization of society and the defunding of education and social programs—because a serious examination of the roots of this social phenomenon would expose their own role in creating the social crisis out of which it has developed."
