Friend,
Jacob Blake is still paralyzed, and his shooters are still free. Breonna Taylor is dead, and her murderers are still free. So long as the police are allowed to shoot Black people with impunity, no one in this country will ever fully be free.
Jacob Blake was shot seven times in August while climbing into a car with his three children. Breonna Taylor was shot eight times in her sleep, and the only legal repercussions were for the bullets that missed. Why, is our government-funded policing force able to continue to shoot first and ask questions later, leaving 99% of police officers facing no legal censure whatsoever for their actions?1
In America, police officers are murdering Black people with impunity. It’s time to stop letting these violent offenders hide behind badges and bring them to justice.
This week we are reminded, yet again, that our lives do not matter to a government which refuses to take any legal action whatsoever against those who shoot and murder us in cold blood. Until there is justice for all of us, there will be peace for none of us.
Add your name to call for JUSTICE for Jacob, the IMMEDIATE arrest of all involved in his shooting, and a swift and decisive defunding of the overfunded, violent police forces in this country.
Black people are dying in America, and then being taxed to pay for the livelihood of their own murderers. In a nation where innocent people are gunned down every day, in a nation where non violent protesters are gassed and shot at for protesting those murders, no one is free. Until there is justice for Jacob Blake, there is no justice for any of us.
We, at Hip Hop Caucus, call upon you to add your name and help us as we continue to struggle for Justice for Black people in this country, and as we continue to say—resoundingly—Black Lives Matter.
