The fires are political.

Tell the Commission on Presidential Debates and Debate:

"To save our own lives, and the lives of billions globally who will be affected by America’s climate inaction, we MUST have climate change be a central issue on the debate stage this fall."

Friend,

America is Burning. The sky in San Francisco looks like Mars, and flames are licking the Golden Gate bridge.

It’s like that up and down the west coast, as each year becomes the biggest wildfires in history. Families are fleeing for their lives, leaving homes and possessions behind, as an entire portion of America self immolates.

This is not some random chaotic accident. This is a direct consequence of the climate crisis.1 And if we don’t act IMMEDIATELY, it will only get worse.

The 2020 election could be our last chance to mitigate the climate crisis―but in 2016, the Presidential debates featured exactly zero questions about climate. We can’t afford to make that mistake again.

Add your name to our urgent petition, calling on the Commission on Presidential Debates to ask questions to showcase the candidates’ plans to address the climate crisis!

This country, and world, is at an essential pivot point. We can act now, and create an economy that doesn’t plunge a significant portion of the country into fire, or we can continue to passively watch as we literally go up in flames.

2020 will be one of the most important Presidential elections in history, and it is unconscionable that more attention is not being granted to man made climate change as climate disasters. We at Hip Hop Caucus, along with forty five other concerned organizations, are calling upon the Presidential debates to include significant attention given the existential disaster we labor under RIGHT NOW.

This is not a partisan issue. 68% of Americans of all parties2 are scared for their future―a future scientists around the world are warning could be entirely uninhabitable. The climate crisis is hitting vulnerable communities first and hardest. When crops fail and food prices rise, our communities suffer. When rising sea levels force people from their homes, our communities have to start over. The climate crisis is a racial justice crisis.

Without bold and immediate action given toward the crisis of a rapidly warming climate, nothing else we do will be meaningful or lasting.

SIGN NOW: To save our own lives, and the lives of billions globally who will be affected by America’s climate inaction, we MUST have climate change be a central issue on the debate stage this fall.

Join us in the effort to save our own lives- and the lives of all others.
