The media has been bombarding us with imagery, articles, op-eds, think pieces, reports, and anything else you can think of that position China as a monolithic superpower hellbent on destroying … everything. Katie Halper is joined in this segment by Contributing Editor of Black Agenda Report, Co-Host of The Left Lens, and organizer with No Cold War Danny Haiphong, along with regular Thursday night cohost Leslie Lee III. Danny’s provided an image that combines a group of magazine cover- and article-art images along with their accompanying headlines and titles, and it would be funny if it weren’t so alarmingly and uniformly one-sided. The U.S. is in a New Cold War with China, and the consequences are prolific. Asian-Americans are being targeted in more hate crimes, especially since Covid-19 and the Trump administration’s insistence on spewing racist rhetoric blaming China for the virus. Even with the Trump administration out of office, there is certainly no downturn in increased anti-Asian racism in the U.S. Danny relates the concerning increase in anti-Chinese sentiment he’s witnessing and reporting on.
