After Turkey's attack, what happens next?

After years of terrorizing Iraq, an attack by the Turkish government this week finally received world attention.  ASHARQ AL-AWSAT reports:


The United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the attack that targeted a tourist area in the Dohuk province in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation stressed the UAE’s strong condemnation of the attack and its permanent rejection of all destabilizing forms of violence.


It expressed the UAE's solidarity with all measures taken by Iraq to protect its sovereignty, security and stability, underling its keenness to ensure the security and stability of Iraq.


The Ministry also expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy to the government and people of Iraq and to the families of the victims of this heinous crime, and wished a speedy recovery for all the injured.

The Armenian Foreign Ministry on Friday, July 22 condemned the Zakho resort attack, which killed at least nine civilians, including two children.

"Our deepest condolences to friendly Iraq and Iraqi people on the tragic death of civilians as a result of shelling in Zakho district," the Armenian Foreign Ministry said.

"We strongly condemn violent act against civilian population and wish a speedy recovery to those injured."



Those condolences aren't surprising since, for years now, the Turkish government's actions have been compared to the genocide the Turkish government carried out on Armenia in the previous century.  Of course, the Turkish government still denies the Armenian genocide.  And they're still denying that they carried out the attack on Iraq.  AHVAL explains:

Turkey has failed to issue a formal apology or a send a letter to Baghdad over its deadly attacks on Wednesday on a tourist resort in Dohuk province in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region of northern Iraq, Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein said.

The top Iraqi diplomat reiterated that Turkey was responsible for the attack, saying that the country was not free to enter Iraqi soil as it pleased, Duvar news site reported on Saturday.

Nine people were killed in a strike in a resort near the Kurdish city of Zakho, that Iraq blamed on Turkish forces. 


Three of the nine killed were children.  Between 23 and 28 additional people were left injured (the count varies depending on the outlet).


How did it happen?  Well for years Turkey's been allowed to get away with this.  It probably starts during Bully Boy Bush's second term occupying the White House when the US government makes a deal with the Turkish government wherein a nice chunk of land in southern Turkey is handed ovr to become a CIA outpost.  That's probably the biggest tie continuing to this day.  So when Turkey moved in its army onto Iraqi soil, the US said nothing.  When Turkish War Planes bombed farms and villages in the Kurdistan (northern Iraq), the US said nothing.  Now Turkey has troops and bases on the ground in Iraq.  These are violations of national sovereignty and they are acts of war.


But everyone appears to be a-okay with just ignoring it and letting the despot the runs (ruins) Turkey get away with it, year after year.  Just like they let him get away with his attack on US soil when he visited DC.  


Will he get away with this?  


DT NEXT notes, "Iraq on Saturday requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council after a suspected Turkish bombardment on a resort in Iraq's northern province of Duhok."  PRESS TV adds, "Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmad al-Sahaf made the announcement in a statement on Saturday, saying Iraq has requested the UNSC to hold an emergency meeting to discuss Turkey’s attacks, stressing that no security or military agreement exists between Iraq and Turkey."  THE TEHRAN TIMES observes, "Of note, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for an urgent investigation into the artillery shelling of Dohuk. "

So what happens next?  How valuable is that CIA out-post?  Is the US government really going to kill an investigation into this attack?
