From the publisher:
Finally . . . the 2023 season has arrived. During the next six weeks roughly five + dozen DCI and DCA corps will compete in a series of competitions across the United States and several dozen will perform shows in the United Kingdom and on the European continent.
The big news is that Drum Corps International and Drum Corps Associates have agreed to plan joint championships in Indianapolis for August 2024 and August 2025. The DCA Championships have been held on Labor Day weekend for decades, but the timing has become a challenge to recruiting because of high school and college start dates, and band camps that prevent many from participating.
For me, the off-season gets shorter as I keep busy creating and accumulating material for the monthly editions. Now it’s time to turn attention to the four weekly issues following this one during July, then the August pre-DCI monthly and one final weekly magazine, the post-DCI report on the season-ending results for the junior corps coming out August 18. That will be followed by September reporting results of the Labor Day weekend championship for the all-age corps. October will bring to a conclusion articles on the final competitions for Drum Corps United Kingdom, the British Youth Band Association and Drum Corps Europe.
I hope everyone will be able to hit the road and see more summer shows as the activity returns to a full season of events around the world. The corps deserve to perform in front of huge audiences with reactions that include plenty of deserved and spontaneous standing ovations . . . and support through purchase of souveniers.
Let’s all vow to making this a great “comeback” series of events that support the continued excellence of drum corps!
