This morning Reuters is reporting a Tikrit car bombing (1 person dead, six injured), a Baghdad roadside bombing (three injured), a Baghdad rocket attack (five injured), two corpses discovered "near Rutba" and a Baghdad mosque "surrounded" with five people arrested.
Oh look who's criticizing John McCain. The claim is the person's a presidential candidate. The claim is he's calling out Republicans and Democrats. But look who's taken a page from the Obama campaign. Doesn't appear to be a great deal of difference between him and MoveOn. That's because that party's already made their political choice: Barack. And that's the real point of the article, not a presidential run.
Amazing that an alleged independent candidate can't address what David Nason (The Australian) does:
On Iraq, Obama says he will pull out all US troops by next year, but his staffers have several times conceded this is aspirational and that a final decision will depend on military advice available only to the president.
As Obama's foreign policy adviser, Samantha Powers, put it shortly before her anti-Clinton remarks forced her resignation: "You can't make a commitment in March 2008 about what circumstances will be like in January of 2009.
"He (Obama) will, of course, not rely on some plan that he's crafted as a presidential candidate or a US senator.
"He will rely on a plan -- an operational plan -- that he pulls together in consultation with people who are on the ground."
This means the voters -- and the troops -- won't find out what's going down until after the election.

Literally every day now brings a report on a suicide by a veteran of the Iraq war who served multiple tours there and/or suffered from PTSD. In most cases, the stories emerge from small town newspapers, as E&P has chronicled for nearly five years. Today's example comes from a much bigger paper, the Houston Chronicle, and probes at length a case that occurred last year.
And in this case, the soldier's wife joined him as a suicide the following day.
The article by Lindsay Wise on Aron Andersson and Cassy Walton observes that when the former "killed himself on March 6, 2007, he became one of at least 16 Army recruiters to commit suicide nationwide since 2000. Five of those suicides occurred in Texas, including three at the Houston Recruiting Battalion, where Andersson worked after serving two tours of duty in Iraq.
