Hejira

Ghazi Harith (Rudaw) reports:

The Kurdistan Region appears to have set the ball rolling toward independence from Iraq. The first signs of this emerged last week when the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced -- despite threats from Baghdad -- the sale of one million barrels of Kurdish oil that had been stored at the Turkish port of Ceyhan.
With this move Kurdish authorities in Erbil not only defied Iraq’s central government, they also ignored warnings from the United States, which has consistently stood against Kurdistan selling its oil without Baghdad’s consent.

Independence for the KRG becoming a reality?

And caused by Nouri's bullying and threatening?

That would be something.

AFP reports, "Iraq's Kurdistan region on Sunday slammed legal action filed by the central government against Turkey, saying it was illegitimate and likely to fail, in the latest sign of worsening ties with Baghdad."  As bad as this dispute seems, Nouri has additional problems as well.  He failed to win enough seats in Parliament for his stated desire of a majority government in the April 30th elections.  And his numbers may get chipped away because of serious charges of voting irregularities.  Ammar Karim (AFP) reports on those issues here.

Nouri continued his War Crimes today by continuing his months long campaign of bombing Falluja's residential neighborhoods.  National Iraqi News Agency reports one bombing left 4 civilians dead and nine injured and another left 9 dead and sixteen injured.  Every day the death and wounded toll grows higher.  Why is the US government still supplying Iraq with weapons.

Why is spineless Senator Patrick Leahy silent as this continues?
The Leahy Amendment  pulls financial and military support for governments who attack their own people.

How much of a hypocrite do you have to be to push that law and now stay silent?

What was the point of your law?

Just a few feel good headlines?

Because if you meant what the law said, you'd be decrying Nouri's actions and demanding that US support be cut off -- as the law named after you requires.

Again, how big of a hypocrite is Patrick Leahy?

In other violence, National Iraqi News Agency reports Babil police states they killed 3 suspectsJoint Operations Command announced they killed 45 suspects in Anbar, 2 Iraqi soldiers were shot dead in a battle "northwest of Tikrit," 2 Qadisiyah bombings injured two body guards for Brigadier Mohamed Naguib, a Wajihiya bombing left Integrity Commission member Taha Yas Khudair and one of his bodyguards injured, a Haditha roadside bombing left 2 police members dead and four more injured, a Baghdad roadside bombing left four people injured, a Baghdad mortar attack left two people injured, a Mosul suicide bomber took his own life and the lives of 3 police members with eighteen more people injured, an al-Hermat battle left 1 Iraqi soldier dead and another injured, 1 Yazidi was shot dead in Mosul, and a roadside bombing left two police injured.
