WASHINGTON, DC—Paralyzed Veterans of America
is proud to announce that the organization has been selected as a
Bronze Level winner in the 35th Annual Telly Awards for its public
service spot featuring Paralyzed Veterans’ supporter and Academy Award
winner Ben Affleck. The award-winning spot can be viewed online at http://www.pva.org/site/c.ajIRK9NJLcJ2E/b.9076461/k.FCFA/Video_Ben_Affleck_2014.htm.
“We are very honored and proud to be recognized for our efforts to
raise awareness for veterans living with spinal cord injury and
disease,” said Bill Lawson,
national president of Paralyzed Veterans of America. “We especially
thank Ben Affleck for his support in our mission of helping paralyzed
veterans live full and productive lives.”
“Great news! I am thrilled and honored,” Affleck said after hearing the news of the award.
The Silver Telly Council, the judging and oversight body for the
Telly Awards, is composed of top industry professionals that are past
winners of a Silver Telly, the body’s highest honor. The Telly Awards
receives over 13,000 entries annually from the finest ad agencies,
production companies, TV stations, cable companies, interactive agencies
and corporations in the world. It is a remarkable achievement to be
selected for recognition.
A portion of the winning spot (“Ben Affleck/PVA story”) will be shown
in Times Square several times a day during July, August and September.
“The Telly Awards has a mission to honor the very best in film and
video,” said Linda Day, executive director of the Telly Awards. Mr.
Affleck’s and PVA’s accomplishment illustrates their creativity, skill,
and dedication to their craft and serves as a testament to great film
and video production.”
The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 and is the premier award
honoring outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials and
programs, the finest video and film productions and online commercials,
video and films. With nearly 12,000 entries from all 50 states and
numerous countries, winners represent the best work of the most
respected advertising agencies, production companies, television
stations, cable operators and corporate video departments in the world.
For its 35th season, The Telly Awards once again joined forces with
YouTube to give the public the power to view and rate videos submitted
as part of the People’s Telly Awards. In addition to recognition from
the Silver Telly Council, the judging panel that selects the Telly
Awards winners, the Internet community helps decide the People’s Telly
Awards winners.
A prestigious judging panel of over 500 accomplished industry
professionals, each a past winner of a Silver Telly and a member of The
Silver Telly Council, judged the competition, upholding the historical
standard of excellence that Telly represents. The Silver Council
evaluated entries to recognize distinction in creative work – entries do
not compete against each other – rather entries are judged against a
high standard of merit. Less than 10% of entries are chosen as Winners
of the Silver Telly, the highest honor. Approximately 25% of entries
are chosen as Winners of the Bronze Telly.

About Paralyzed Veterans of America
Paralyzed Veterans of America was founded by a group of seriously
injured American heroes from the “Greatest Generation” of World War II.
They created a nonprofit organization to meet the challenges that they
faced back in the 1940s—from a medical community not ready to treat them
to an inaccessible world. For more than 68 years, Paralyzed Veterans’ national office and its 34 chapters across the nation have been making America a better place for all veterans and people with disabilities. (www.pva.org)
