Isakson, Tester Applaud House Introduction of Legislation to Improve GI Bill

Sweeping legislation would help improve veterans’ education benefits, senators encouraged by bipartisan agreement

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., and Jon Tester, D-Mont., chairman and ranking member of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, today applauded the U.S. House of Representatives’ introduction of legislation that will make critical improvements to the Post-9/11 GI Bill.

“We applaud the House for putting together a bill that addresses so many of our veterans’ and surviving families’ most urgent needs in the Post-9/11 GI Bill,” said Isakson and Tester. “We are grateful to Chairman Roe and Ranking Member Walz for their tireless dedication to our veterans and look forward to working in the Senate on similar legislation to address these critical issues.”

Isakson and Tester are currently working closely with their colleagues in Congress and veterans service organizations on companion legislation to be introduced in the Senate to enhance the Post-9/11 GI Bill and help veterans succeed in their desired field.

The Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs is chaired by U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., in the 115th Congress. Isakson is a veteran himself – having served in the Georgia Air National Guard from 1966-1972 – and has been a member of the Senate VA Committee since he joined the Senate in 2005. Isakson’s home state of Georgia is home to more than a dozen military installations representing each branch of the armed services as well as more than 750,000 veterans.
