Senator Maria Cantwell's office issued the following today:

“Whereas the Tribal Canoe Journey is a celebration of the resilient culture and way of life of all the Tribal Nations of the Pacific Northwest and across this nation,” the resolution reads, “… the Senate (1) recognizes the 29th anniversary of the Tribal Canoe Journey; (2) acknowledges that the annual Tribal Canoe Journey is a vital part of the fabric and culture of the Tribal Nations of the Northwest; and (3) congratulates the Puyallup Tribe of Indians for hosting the 2018 Paddle to Puyallup.”
The Tribal Canoe Journey is an annual Native American traditional canoe gathering that takes place along the Pacific Coast and Puget Sound of Washington state and Canada. Tribes throughout the Pacific Northwest and Alaska participate. 109 canoes are currently registered for this year’s event, hosted by the Puyallup Tribe, which begins on Saturday.
Senator Cantwell will be attending the 2018 Power Paddle to the Puyallup Landing Ceremony at 11:00 AM PT on Saturday, July 28, in Puyallup.
In the Senate, Cantwell and Murray’s resolution was also cosponsored by U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR). In the House, in addition to Rep. Heck, U.S. Representatives Derek Kilmer (D-WA), Adam Smith (D-WA), Rick Larsen (D-WA), Don Young (R-AK), Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR), Tom Cole (R-OK), and Betty McCollum (D-MN) have cosponsored the resolution.
