A New Year (and Big Birthday) for Bioneers

A New Year (and Big Birthday) for Bioneers

Dear Bioneer,

As we turn the page to Gregorian Calendar Year 2019, I have so much to be thankful for, including you, the Bioneers community. Bioneers celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, and without your participation in this movement, we never could have reached such an enormous landmark.

When Kenny Ausubel and Nina Simons co-created Bioneers 30 years ago, they envisioned sowing a field. Today, that modest field has grown to include generations of inspired and inspiring activists, visionaries, and myriad “solutionaries” working to identify practical solutions for some of the most challenging issues of our time. That field continues to grow and be ever more relevant and vibrant. And it is being co-created with you.

I want to thank each of you, the members of the Bioneers community, faculty and staff for making each of these years possible with the vital partnership support you provide — whether it be financial, in-kind or helping to grow the community as one of our Bioneers Pollinators!

So many people commented to me after this year’s Bioneers gathering that Bioneers filled them with hope in extremely challenging times. I enter into 2019 as a “Prisoner of Hope.”

This era has the potential for deep positive transformation, toward a new era based on clean energy, social justice and awakened compassion. We will co-create that era together.

Thanks to a generous Bioneers supporter, all donations made to Bioneers over the next week will be matched up to $100,000. We're over a quarter of the way to our goal, and I hope you'll consider contributing now, while every dollar counts double.

Over the next weeks, months and years, the world around us will inevitably offer more surprises and challenges. Bioneers will be with you every step of the way, sharing messages of hope and presenting solutions to help us navigate these unprecedented times.

From all of us at Bioneers, we look forward to sharing the next year with you, speaking to you throughout the year and reconnecting with you in person October 18-20 to celebrate 30 years of Bioneers!

Sincerely,

Joshua Fouts

What Changemakers Are Saying About Bioneers

Michael Pollan: This is my fourth or fifth time on this stage (since 2001), and one of the reasons I’m here is to express my gratitude to Kenny and Nina for all that this community has contributed to my work. It was through Kenny I met Joel Salatin, the farmer who’s at the center of The Omnivore’s Dilemma. It was through Bioneers that I was first exposed to Paul Stamets, the visionary mycologist who’s very much a part of my new book How to Change Your Mind. Heritage Seeds was an idea that Kenny introduced me to when he was working on Seeds of Change [in the early 1990s]. Time after time, there have been key moments, and I have this sense my next book is somebody out here. I just have to find them.
