WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member of the Senate Labor, Health, and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee, issued the following statement on Republican leaders’ choice to ignore bipartisan support for reversing the harmful gag rule the Trump-Pence Administration imposed on Title X-funded family planning centers, jeopardizing care for millions of patients nationwide.

“President Trump and Vice President Pence have made it a top priority, since day one, to undermine access to reproductive health care—including through an extreme, ideological rule that restricts the medical guidance providers can give to millions of patients. By blocking a vote to reverse this harmful rule and ignoring patients across the country who spoke out against it, Republican leaders in Congress have made it clearer than ever that they will go to any length to stand with President Trump and Vice President Pence.

“They should know that women who don’t want politics interfering with their access to basic services like cancer screenings and birth control aren’t going to forget who put patients first, and who put politics first.”
