Is This What Feeling Gets? (Diana Ross)
The legendary Diana Ross singing "Is This What Feeling Gets?" It's not in 1978's THE WIZ. It should be. It's always been on the film's soundtrack album. When THE WIZARD OF OZ was first tested, they removed "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" after the first preview. When FUNNY GIRL was headed to Broadway, "People" was iffy and in danger of being dropped -- even after finally clicking in Boston, it was still iffy until Philadelphia. "Is This What Feeling Gets?" should never have been dropped. Like "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" and "People," it does not 'slow' the movement, it adds to the depth and meaning. Quincy Jones, Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson wrote the song for the film. Had it been included in the film, there's a very good chance it would have been nominated for an Academy Award -- "Can I Go On" is not a song that would ever be nominated (for starters, it's not even two minutes long). The rest of the songs on the soundtrack are all from the Broadway musical -- meaning they cannot be nominated for an Academy Award (the Academy only nominates original works created for a film).
In addition to appearing on the 1978 film soundtrack, "Is This What Feeling Gets?" also appears on
