Why do wars get started?
Well in the US, we're on a permanent war footing because that worked to employe everyone initially (the 40s and 50s) now it just provides billions to the weapons industry. And the constant enemies is necessary to scare the citizens so that they don't make demands for what they actually need -- universal health coverage, housing, etc.
But for those not on a permanent war footing, wars stat because people don't know how to mind their own damn business. Case in point? Iraq's Foreign Ministry.
If you missed it, and I fortunately had, a small group of peole in Sweden are burning Qurans. THE NEW ARAB notes:
Iraq's foreign ministry summoned the Swedish envoy to Baghdad on Sunday to protest Quran-burning rallies held by a far-right extremist group days prior.
Baghdad denounced the Quran-burning incident as "a provocation to the feelings of Muslims and an extremely sensitive offence," read a statement from the Iraqi foreign ministry.
"We urge the Swedish government to stop any divisive actions meant to provoke the feelings of religious groups," the statement said.
Did this take place in Iraq? No. Did it take place in a state bordering Iraq? No.
But this is what they are focusing on. Now they've managed to avoid putting in a new president and prime minister -- elections were held October 10th -- but this is what they focus on?
More to the point, if the Foreign Ministry needs to be speaking to anyone, it's the government of Turkey.
THE NATIONAL is so scared of what's taking place, that they cover it an unsigned piece which opens:
Turkey has launched a ground and air cross-border offensive against Kurdish militants in northern Iraq, Defence Minister Hulusi Akar said early on Monday.
Turkish jets and artillery struck targets belonging to Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, before commandos, supported by helicopters and drones, crossed into the neighbouring region by land or were airlifted by helicopters, Mr Akar said in a video posted on the ministry’s website.
The jets “successfully” struck shelters, bunkers, caves, tunnels, ammunition depots and headquarters belonging to the PKK, AP reported Mr Akar as saying.
So your own coutnry is being attacked from the air and on the ground by Turkey and you're worried about a book burning in a far away country.
Proof once again that the US government chose the most idiotic fools to put in charge of Iraq.
Invading troops? The Foreign Ministry is fine with that. But a book burning in another country that is 2163.3 miles away from Iraq? That swings the Foreign Ministry into action.
Where's the outrage of this #Turkey attack to #Kurdish in #Iraq?
