And this is why we don't take so much of the left seriously. The above segment is garbage and a waste of time. It's nothing but masturbation. Actually, it's less than that because I believe the goal of masturbation is to get off and this trash offers no climax.
I know Jon Stewart, I've praised him over the years and I've also taken him to task over the years. He's not a leader -- and his 2024 general election coverage was an embarrassment that advanced right-wing talking points. But not all his embarrassments have been his fault over the years. Before he thankfully retired from THE DAILY SHOW, we noted what a wonderful thing his retirement would be. That was because far too many journalists and what nots were now using their spaces to try to do comedy.
See, everyone thinks they can be funny. But if you attended even one Christmas party this month, you damn well know that most people are just not funny. They think they are. But they aren't.
And the popularity of THE DAILY SHOW meant that Dana Milbank and others thought suddenly they were humorists (2008's "Mad Bitch Beer" being only the most gruesome and embarrassing moment). Hosts of the Sunday chat & chews tried to 'loosen up' and make jokes while interviewing a John McCain or whomever. The American press barely does their job as it is but THE DAILY SHOW provided them with an excuse to do it even less so as various TV producers of public affairs programs passed off as "news" programs insisted that this sort of approach is what drove viewers.
Yes, to comedy show.
They all wanted to be Jon Stewart -- Chuck Todd and all of the jerks and posers.
None of them could do stand up. None of them had the charisma required to do stand up -- at her nuttiest, Roseane Barr still has the charisma to hold an audience's attention. But they didn't want to do their jobs, they wanted to have fun. Jon had a notorious moment on CNN which led to the cancellation of CROSSFIRE. He had rightly called out Paul Begela and Mother Tucker Carlson for the sewage they pumped out over cable but he never bothered to call out all the 'news' people who later followed and tried to ape Jon's antics.
It really wasn't worth it to me -- not for all the chuckles Jon's provided, not even for his 1998 book (really the only book he's ever written) which was hilarious.
And now we're left with Mike Figueredo's garbage above.
There are real issues to discuss.
Floating a political run for Jon Stewart isn't one of them.
Mike is one of the cha-cha shoes idiots who spent the weeks of the general election whining that Kamala wasn't this or wasn't that or couldn't live up to his wet dream of what a left politician should be.
Mike, you f**king idiot, Jon's more to the right of Kamala. You don't know a damn thing. I swear, if Mike wasn't gay, we'd pull him from rotation immediately. But even I have my limits and he's getting dangerously close to being pushed out on the iceberg he belongs.
Jon's not going to be a brave leftist. As someone who knows him and had to defend him here and at THIRD over the last 20 years, I'm fully aware of how the left wing Mike belongs too -- underinformed, poorly educated and unaware that anyone exists on the left who doesn't believe everything Mike believes -- has repeatedly attacked Jon.
We don't want to work with them!
In 2004, Jon and others compiled nonsense and called it a book. For several years after, Jon pursued the book's stated goal and was regularly slammed -- on COMMON DREAMS and many other left sites and by groups like CODEPINK -- because his approach was conciliatory and his politics are middle of the road with a small tilt to the left.
Let's pretend that Mike truly wants Jon to be a presidential candidate. Let's pretend that.
Why does Mike continue praise old man Bernie?
Because Mike is an idiot and a hypocrite. Bernie gets a pass on his long history of racism. Bernie also gets a pass on being 83. Grasp that. Grasp that the entire party is supposed to be rejecting these elderly stooges who refuse to get out of the way. But Bernie just ran for re-election this year and, at the age of 83, got elected to a six year term.
And precious Mike won't ever call Bernie out.
That's called hypocrisy and it disgust me.
If you're going to waste your time on the segment Mike did, you damn well better have done your research. Mike did nothing. It's a lazy segment that's an embarrassment and further calls into question Mike Figueredo's judgement.
Donald Trump will be sworn in as president next month and he's not qualified.
But let's all be hypocrites -- like Michael Moore -- and start offering garbage takes about what's going to save us. Let's all masturbate to fantasies so we live in infortainment in the final moments of our democracy.
I'm not in the damn mood.
Let's review Jon's lack of qualifications.
Jon Stewart has no political plans and never has. The closest to a political them Jon's offered in his life and in his work is the same as Glen ("Rodney") King: "Can't we all just get along?"
That's not a political rallying cry.
Jon has never run for elected office. Jon has never held a government post.
Jon would most likely, if he ran, have to stand onstage with other challengers. At five feet and six inches (he says seven), he would most likely be the smallest on stage (although their might be a shorter woman on the stage, there might not be -- Elizabeth Warren is five feet and eight inches, for example). So he's got no experience and he's going to look really short on stage.
Where's the power? Where's the strength? In his comedy? Yuck-yuck boy for president is a winning candidate? More to the point, his comedy isn't observational, it's mincing and spooked and all these things that build on the laugh that Jon's scared.
Do you not get that, Mike?
Are you really that damn stupid?
Jon's 62 years old. His most effective public moments -- as an advocate -- find him on the brink of tears.
Is that really going to translate as strength to voters around the country?
Now since he returned to THE DAILY SHOW, he's outraged viewers repeatedly. Is Mike unaware of that? There was very embarrassing coverage of Gaza -- shameful, in fact. We called out THE DAILY SHOW attack on student protesters, for example.
Now some on the left were so stupid, some on YOUTUBE, that they included it in their own left and 'left' YOUTUBE programs and giggled because that's what losers and idiots they are.
As a comic, Jon's a success or a failure based upon whether or not he got a laugh.
I've made that point many times over. But I've also pointed out that when he tries to advocate politically, there's a lot more to be graded on.
It's 2024. The next presidential election is three years and eleven months away.
A lot of people are going to be struggling over the next four years because Chump and his MAGA freaks are racists, sexists, homophobes, transphobes and haters of all immigrants not named Elon Musk. It's going to be a very rough four years.
Mike needs to figure out whether he's going to do a political show or a yuck-yuck show.
Here's a tip for him: You're not funny. At your funniest, you can prompt a slight grin. At your funniest. In a MAGA world that includes Chump, Nancy Mace and so many other cretins, we need to focus on reality and your pathetic attempts at comedy help no one.
By the way, this wasn't what I was going to write about. I had something else to cover. I saw Mike's video and thought, "Oh, let's note that." Then I saw the title and streamed it in horror. We can't afford this type of garbage.
If Mike wants to build up someone for a presidential campaign three years and eleven months ahead of time, he could at the very least find some relatively unknown politician -- a mayor somewhere, for example -- and at least advance the possible. Instead, he's TMZ trying to figure out what's going to get clicks even though it's nothing but cancer causing junk food that will kill us all.
Not in the damn mood. He should be ashamed of himself.
By the way, Jon Stewart's been famous for four decades now. The number of people leaving praise comments for Mike on this hideous video might comfort him. However, if he starts noting how many people, four decades later, who still spell it "John" Stewart, that should tell him the IQ level of the people impressed with the 'work' he did on this video.
What I planned to write about?
I'm not going to now. We posted this video by MEIDASTOUCH NEWS while I was writing the above.
Ben's missing a point. It's a great video. And I recommend you stream it.
But we were going to note that topic with a historical echo.
Because as bad as what we're seeing is, when it was proposed before -- and, yes, it has been proposed before -- it was even scarier.
Chump and his clown car of idiots are uneducated and uninformed. So I'm not going to help them with earlier arguments -- including earlier legal arguments.
But this is scary, what Ben's addressing. And the country's faced that possibility before. We were saved by other things in the past. The downfall of a politician. I don't know if we're going to be that lucky this go round.
But I know while we face these very real threats to democracy, we do not have time for yuck-yucks from wanna be comedians like Mike Figueredo.
In other words, masturbate all you want, Mike, but don't make us your cum rag.
Kat's "Kat's Korner: Tori Amos' DEEP DIVE into obscurity" and "Kat's Korner: Will there be justice for Lone Justice?" went up yesterday. And "Raison d'être (Ava and C.I.)" went up at THIRD today.
