So we're going over topics in e-mails tonight.
Let's start with the question what is Donald Chump doing? The Convicted Felon is destroying the country. But if you mean specifically what was he doing today, Stephanie Mencimer (MOTHER JONES) offered:
It’s been 61 days since President Donald Trump promised that he would end the war in Ukraine on “day one” of his new administration, and the war is still going strong. Shadow president Elon Musk and his DOGE boys are upending Washington, laying waste to federal agencies and deploying law enforcement to break into the nonprofit Institute of Peace. Consumer confidence is in the toilet, inflation is threatening a resurgence, and the country is possibly headed for a self-inflicted recession. But never fear! The president will be hard at work this weekend, forcing taxpayers to subsidize his New Jersey golf club while he works on his backswing.
Trump’s official schedule for Saturday involves spending the day at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster until around 5:45 pm, at which point he will fly off to Philly to catch the NCAA wrestling championships.
This will be the seventh weekend, or 17th day of Trump’s second presidency, spent golfing at one of his own clubs, more than a quarter of his time in office. Earlier this month, HuffPost calculated that the golf outings had already cost taxpayers more than $18 million, much of which went directly into Trump’s own company coffers. The outlet also suggested Trump was on track to exceed the $151 million he spent during his first term, when he made 428 visits to a Trump Organization property and played an estimated 261 rounds of golf.
But if you did mean what is the crazy man doing, Ross Rosenfeld (THE NEW REPUBLIC) explains:
“They say an old man is twice a child,” Rosencrantz remarks in Shakespeare’s Hamlet, as he and the prince of Denmark observe Polonius. It’s a borrowed line, dating back to antiquity: Sophocles wrote, “For the aged man is once again a child.” We all recognize that old age can cause senility and fragility. And when a person is already inclined toward delusion, that trait can become more entrenched and grandiose over time. The irony in Rosencrantz’s comment is that he is speaking with a character who is both feigning madness and possibly descending into it. Polonius, in fact, is the one to note that Hamlet’s act may produce certain benefits, declaring, “Though this be madness, yet there is method in ’t.”
We’ve seen this strategy throughout modern political history. Khrushchev feigned irrationality to strike fear into the West. Reagan thought it benefited him if Russia viewed him as possibly crazy. After Hiroshima, Truman wanted the Japanese to believe he would bombard them with “a rain of ruin from the air,” even though he only had one more bomb at his disposal (and figured it a bonus if the Soviets thought he might drop one again). Sometimes it can be difficult to discern what is an act and what is true madness, but it’s important to recognize when there is no meaning to be found—no method to the madness.
That seemed to be CNBC economic analyst Steve Liesman’s conclusion last week about President Donald Trump’s tariffs. “I’m going to say this at risk of my job,” Liesman said, “but what President Trump is doing is insane. It is absolutely insane … and now he’s saying he’s putting 50 percent tariffs on Canada unless they agree to become the fifty-first state. That is insane. There’s just no other way of describing it.” Host Kelly Evans countered with an attempt to make sense of Trump’s actions, suggesting the president might be motivated by Canada’s threat to tax electricity exports or that he might be employing “insanity as a strategy.” But Liesman wasn’t having it. “Insanity is not a strategy,” he retorted.
It’s not just Trump’s unpredictable tariff policy that appears insane. His entire administration is defined by madness—in both senses. On Friday, he went on another incoherent rant on social media, claiming once that the 2020 election was stolen from him and rewriting history to blame all of our current problems, including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, on Joe Biden. In other Truth Social posts, he’s boasted about being a king and claimed that the “European Union was formed for the sole purpose of taking advantage of the United States.”
Ma Yang. Why? She's not one of the 1% that freaks that the Kshama Sawant give a damn about. You have to be special for them to care about you being deported. The 300 Venezuelans? Kshama's 'action' (publicity stunt) didn't even acknowledge them. She just focused on the Syrian-boran who made it to Columbia. Remember, kids, the 1% rule where we're supposed to worship the powerful is also among the protest left -- especially on the fringes.
While they don't care about Ma Yang, others do. Alisha Rahaman Sarkar (INDEPENDENT) reports:
A Milwaukee woman who was deported to Laos by the Trump administration earlier this month is deeply “shaken” by the prospect of spending more than a decade away from her partner and five children back home in Wisconsin, activists helping the family told The Independent.
Ma Yang, a 37-year-old Hmong-American, has been living in a government facility outside the Laotian capital of Vientiane for the past couple of weeks after being forced to leave her family and friends in the U.S.
Yang was born in a refugee camp in Thailand but gained legal status as a permanent U.S. resident until she pleaded guilty to cannabis-related charges and served 30 months in federal prison. Having taken a plea deal mistakenly believing that her green card would not be at risk, she is now one of the "millions and millions" of people Donald Trump pledged to kick out of America during his re-election campaign.
Some BLUESKY.
I don't think she's coming back. Not while Chump occupies the White House -- thanks, Kashama. If a groundswell built up for her tomorrow -- national one -- I don't think she'd be coming back. She should, she shouldn't have been deported, in fact. But there are realities.
Let's move to Mike for a second:
Oh, by the way, Beau called me. He saw an article about Prince Harry. The fright-wing in the US wants to get him kicked out. The right-wing has demanded his visa paperwork be released. They want to see if he notes the drug use that he wrote about in his book. Why? Because then they can deport him for lying. From the article:
Conservative group the Heritage Foundation has been seeking the release of Harry’s immigration records for several years under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Harry disclosed prior drug use—including cocaine—in his 2023 memoir Spare, and while drug use itself isn’t necessarily a disqualifying factor for a visa, lying about it could pose problems. In theory, if Harry “didn’t disclose drug use on his visa application, that could be grounds to have him removed” from the U.S., Today reported.
Beau pointed out that's what C.I. was saying about Syrian-born. Beau pointed me to the March 14th snapshot:
I saw all the liars the week of Syrian-born (and since). The so-called experts insisting that this couldn't happen when it could and did.
I'm not going to come here to lie about someone's chances. Leave that to Chris Hayes' show. I'm not going to do it. What happened to Ma was outrageous. And legal malpractice unless her attorney, over two years ago, worded it to her with cautions that she ignored. Pleading guilty was always going to leave her open to deportation. Now with a reasonable and sane person in the Oval Office, it was unlikely that she would be deported. And hopefully, that's how it was conveyed: It's unlikely.
We need to be outraged by what's going on but we don't need to make fools of ourselves. Meaning, know the actual law and guidelines and stop misrepresenting them on TV as 'experts.'
Again, Ma Yang is most likely not coming back to the US while Chump is in the White House. That's reality. The 300 Venezuelans? They're most likely not coming back either. The ones who have family and friends who can speak to the reality of what they are. And grasp that. Some idiots don't which is why you see element of the media covering some dumb ass "I'm Jewish and I went to classed with Syrian-born so I can speak to" -- you can't speak to f**k, you don't know the guy, family does and friends of many years do.
Let's note this video.
Rachel Maddow's interview with the attorney for one Venezuelan rounded up and deported in that 300 deportation that was supposedly savage gang members is an important interview and it details one person who was deported. The attorney gave her client's first name and photos were shown of him while she explained he was gay and a make up artist and -- That's not a gang member.
It's outrageous that people are deported and we need to know this and know the people's names -- especially those who aren't part of the 'old boys network' because where they went to college, you know, the left needs to help the working people. But when there's an actual case that we could win? We especially need to know that and, no, Chump's not going to be able to sell this very slender gay man who is a make up artist as a member of a violent gang.
And when you expose one lie of Chump's deportation cases, it makes people more interested when you try advocate on behalf of another.
I was going to talk about how the Kshwama crowd is actively working to destroy AOC -- another reason for her to distance herself from the Socialist Alternative's takeover of the DSA -- but we'll save that for another day. They're also attacking Bernie.
That's why it matters though -- that's why it matters when Chris Hayes brings on non-Democrats and let's them critique our political party as though they're members of it. They pulled that s**t from August 2024 up to the election and poisoned people against Kamala Harris. Are we really going to let these freaks destroy our country again?
DSA may have been too stupid to prevent SA from taking over their party but Democrats aren't that stupid. We won't let them. But people like Chris Hayes will. They'll bring them on their show and they'll let them pose as Democrats even though Chris knows that they aren't Democrats.
We can't afford that.
Look around at what we're dealing with every day and grasp that these people who put us here are still out there gearing up for their next round of lies.
Centrist Democrats? I don't think they could hurt us as much as SA-controlled DSA did in 2024.
Let's instead move over to Alien Musk. The foreign-born fool wound down his work week insisting that Tesla was coming back and begging no more stock sales.
He was lying. Quentin Fottrell (MARKETWATCH) notes:
Speaking on his social-media platform, X, Elon Musk told shareholders to hold onto their stock, even as sales of the EVs are falling. “If you read the news, it feels like Armageddon, I can’t walk past a TV without seeing a Tesla on fire,” Musk said Thursday. “I understand if you don’t want to buy our product, but you don’t have to burn it down — that’s a bit unreasonable.” He added, “Tesla stock goes up, and it goes down. But, actually, it’s still the same company. It’s just people’s perception of the future.” He also reiterated his great hopes for the Model Y.
His desperation was obvious and it stunk like b.o. He's determined to try to stop the bleeding so he lied. There are no plans to turn the company around. Musk has no plans period. He's failing and he's destroying Tesla. That out Treasure Secretary went on TV and told people to buy stocks was not just unethical, it was bad economic advice and even he knew it when he said it.
If you missed it, Tesla got expelled from this week' Vancouver Auto Show and it's had to recall all the trucks.
And on those trucks? Maryam Khanum (IRISH TIMES) reports:
Two university professors have criticized the design of the Tesla cybertruck, specifically its visual similarity to armored personnel vehicles that patrolled apartheid South Africa, resulting in criticism directed towards the company's CEO, Elon Musk.
Vivian Chenxue Lu and Nana Osei-Opare, both assistant professors at Rice University, published an article analyzing the design and historical significance of apartheid-era armored vehicles in Slate Magazine on Sunday.
Specifically, the two scholars noted similarities between those types of vehicles and the modern Tesla cybertruck.
"Many speculated that its inspiration had come from spaceships of science fiction. In discussing the car's aesthetic early on, Musk referenced cyberpunk and Blade Runner, a film that features sleek metallic vehicles, though with rounded silhouettes designed for aerodynamic speed," they began, acknowledging the science fiction inspirations behind the vehicle's design.
Wow.
Thank goodness that, on the left, we have no stupidity. It's not like we would have a White DSA-er write a book about Musk and others and ignore that three of Chump's biggest donors were highly influenced by their time in apartheid South Africa. It's not like we would have a White DSA-er write a book that came out this year that, in fact, ignored apartheid South Africa even in terms of US students protests against is in the 80s. We'd never have a White DSA-er with his head up his ass unable to realize how awful apartheid was and how strong the movement to overturn it was and how Whites living under it are suspect.
Oh, wait. We do have that jerk on the left. Ava and I covered the jerk, his racism, his bad book in "Media: OWNED finds Eoin Higgins owned by bad journalism."
To those of you saying that when people bring that author on to discuss his bad book, those people are suss from that moment and forever more.
I hear you, I really, really hear you.
Quickly, trying to respond to at least two more e-mails.
Why do I change titles on YOUTUBE videos. Most of the time, I don't. I did today on Jon Stewart -- the original spelt his first name "John." I did today on Stevie Nicks' "Jane." That title was just "Jane" and I put Stevie Nicks' name in the title when I reposted it here so people would know what it was.
I do not "dislike and disrespect" Craig Robinson. I am changing titles on his podcast. We've posted about three of them. The first two, I left the title alone. Then I saw people online laughing that Michelle Obama was a failure on podcasts. Didn't have time to check the facts on that but I do understand that "IMO" means nothing. They'll build it and will mean something. But "IMO" currently means nothing. So the third podcast we posted of it, I put "Michelle Obama" in front of their title. I did that so anyone seeing the title would know it was Michelle's podcast. Here is Craig and Michelle's latest.
No disrespect was meant or intended to Craig Robinson -- I like him and actually have since the 2008 DNC convention. But the podcast needs eyeballs and for that to happen people need to know it's Michelle's podcast.
And the claim from the right that it was a failure? 157K is the number of streams for the first video and I assume those numbers will increase. Michelle came into her own and then some at last year's DNC. I will gladly applaud and amplify her and no disrespect is intended when I repost one of Michelle and Craig's videos here and put Michelle's name in the title. I'm just trying to make sure people know what it is and "IMO" right now is still an unknown.
