Iraq’s Al-Sistani survives assassination attempt
MIDDLE EAST MONITOR reports that Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani has survived an assassination attempt carried out Thursday night at his home. The Ayatollah was not at his home at the time of the attack.
al-Sistani is not only senior Shi'ite cleric in Iraq, he is also someone who has amassed great authority and loyalty.

The Ayatollah has called for the government to address the concerns of the protesters and noted that the corruption in the government has to be addressed.
All this pressure from the demonstrations, as well as al-Sistani’s reproach, has meant that Shiite Muslim political parties are renewing attempts to try and form a government. The political elites of Iraq are currently riven by infighting.(5
