Isakson to Hold Hearing on Veteran Suicide Prevention
‘Harnessing the Power of Community: Leveraging Veteran Networks to Tackle Suicide’
WASHINGTON – The Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, chaired by U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., will hold an oversight hearing on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at 2:30 p.m. to hear from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and community organizations about ongoing efforts to reduce suicide in the veteran community.
This hearing will aim to identify the various factors that lead a veteran to crisis, how communities are currently providing suicide prevention resources and services to veterans, and how the VA can leverage these networks to expand accessibility to the resources provided.

The Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs is chaired by U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., in the 116th Congress. Isakson is a veteran himself – having served in the Georgia Air National Guard from 1966-1972 – and has been a member of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs since he joined the Senate in 2005. Isakson’s home state of Georgia is home to more than a dozen military installations representing each branch of the armed services as well as nearly 700,000 veterans.
