    The “killing Soleimani means Iran goes to war” instant consensus reminds me an awful lot of the instant consensus that said a U.S. embassy in Jerusalem would unleash massive violence. And Soleimani wasn’t exactly a force for regional stability or a champion of noninterventionism.

    But I'm reliably told that supporting taking out Soleimani means I retroactively supported the Iraq war with my neocon friends and that makes me a warmonger. Randos on twitter can't be wrong!
    I’m staunchly anti-war and am opposed to the U.S. bending the 2001 AUMF every which way. But taking out Soleimani is objectively a good thing for the United States and those who oppose the Iranian regime’s unchecked and rampant aggression.

    The most charitable explanation is that most of these bobbleheads just heard of Soleimani for the first time tonight. The less-charitable explanation is that they know what he's responsible for and are therefore only pretending to care about US soldiers' lives.

    Holy crap (if true, obvs--QS has been 'killed' several times)
    Senior Iraqi politician tells me "apparently" Soleimani is dead. This is an astounding escalation between the US and Iran -- which will ripple across the entire Middle East.
