3614 JACKSON HIGHWAY. When we were done speaking this evening, we came back here and I posted two things and then listened to Cher's 3614 HIGHWAY on AMAZON.
Cher wanted to rock -- once upon a time. There was, for example, Black Rose and her albums with GEFFEN. She started out folk rock (both solo and with Sonny). I think 3614 JACKSON HIGHWAY would be classified as soft rock.
It's the strongest album she did in the sixties.
For example, Stephen Stills' "For What It's Worth" probably has the best meter of any set of lyrics. Time and again, Cher delivers with one strong cover after another -- including "(Just Enough to Keep Me) Hangin' On."
She finds a way to make "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man" into her own thing. And the bonus tracks -- including "Superstar" -- are first rate.
I feel like crap this evening and Cher's album is about the only thing providing any comfort.
A number of people e-mailing are upset because Cher's ripping apart Bernie Sanders.
Why is anyone surprised?
Cher's not a visionary, she's always been a reactionary. She lacks the basic education to address real issues.
In the sixties, Cher was repeatedly able to hide behind Sonny. Oh, we support the protesters, we do, oh, wait, Sonny pulled the support!
No, he didn't.
Sonny and Cher pulled support for the protesters on Sunset.
Time and again, she has hide behind him as though she had no say in the matter. That's not accurate.
She's a reactionary and that's why she supports Joe Biden. Joe's not going to anything. And Cher's okay with that because actually doing something -- delivering Medicare For All, for example, scares the s**t out of Cher,
What's really sad for Cher is that she could kept her mouth shut and sailed through the last act of her life looking like someone politically aware. Instead, she's again (remember her immigration Tweets awhile back) disappointing fans who thought Cher was so cool and liberal.
She's not. She's a reactionary and always has been. Even Barbra Streisand is to the left of Cher. When Jane Fonda was dedicating her life to activism in the early seventies, Cher was castigating her for not focusing on money and buying things. That's Cher. That's why she Tweets things like this.

That's why she Tweets about Bernie and includes a photo of Hitler. She's really that ignorant and uneducated.
I like Cher as a person and I will applaud many of her recordings. But I've never mistaken Cher for a political activists.
